Motor constantly cutting out

2 forum posts | Hello everyone, I am a new member and a gunsmith needing help. My Clark lathe is excellent for the work I undertake but when honing out shotgun barrels it constantly cuts out illuminating the orange fault light. It works perfectly unless I put even minor load on the motor, I suspect heavy use of stiff honing flap wheels has caused the failure of a component on the board. I have checked motor brushes and they are fine. The board is stamped XMT 2325.Any advice would be much appreciated. Alan Southern

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | Hello Alan, Welcome to the forum. I have a CL300M, now much modified after 20 years of (ab)use. It may be that one or more of the motor windings has burnt out if you ran it hard and slow (the fan doesn't cool it very well at lower speeds). Replacement boards are available, or look through these search results for relevant threads. Neil

2 forum posts | Hello Neil thanks very much for your advice. I always hone barrels between 800 and 1500rpm. Conversely I have rested the machine and today I did some test turning and all was ok. Lesson learnt 😂😂don’t hone barrels with a low powered lathe that has an overload trip fitted 😂👍I have already decided to get a more powerful lathe and to sell the Clarke, once again thanks very much. kindest regards Alan |
