![]() 856 forum posts 212 photos | Hi. You are looking for something that is treat as a dark art. We have tried at work using standard kit. tig with standard tungstens and argon back purging. The result was ok. I have heard that using another type of gas that i can not think of the name keeps the heat better on the job. There is an American guy the demonstrates it on you tube i will have a look around and post when i find it. Bri |

1186 forum posts 11 photos | Have you looked at the Copper Development Association website? There is all sorts of technical information there. They have a publication search (although the reference I found to 'Modern methods of welding copper' was dated 1943. Modern, I suppose, compared to Modern machine shop practise by Joshua Rose, from 18-something). I believe the alternative (and original) gas is helium. This gives a hotter weld pool. Hence the original name for TIG, heliarc. Argon is used now as it is way cheaper. |
