I'm trying to get one of these working for a friend. Model number is MBS220E, but it looks identical to the current MBS 240E. When I plugged it in it worked for a few seconds before coming to a dead stop. On investigation, the drive belt from the motor to the wheel which drives the blade has turned to dust, and the reinforcing cords were wrapped round the wheel. Measuring it up it looks like a 2mm pitch 290 tooth belt, but there is also a 0.08" pitch. I'm not sure it matters, I certainly can't measure the pulley accurately enough to check. The big wheel does not have teeth, not an unusual arrangement as the wrap o the big wheel is a lot more. No idea how wide, 8mm would look to be the max that will fit.

I've got a price from Axminster for a genuine spare, good job I was sitting down. Similar belts are available on the interweb for 1/6 the price. Could some kinds soul who has one of these have a look and see if there are any identification numbers on the belt, it is most unlikely to be bespoke.

Thanks

It may be hepful to note that the belt for the MBS 240E is specifically identified as Optibelt

... So this might be a good place to start: **LINK**

[ they also do PU ones ] **LINK**

Hello Duncan

Just had a look inside the cover of mine (MBS 240/E)

The belt is Fair (trade mark) MXL B285

Hope this helps

Tim

Brian, the band saw has a different belt, but thanks anyway

Tim, that's great, I've been on to belting on line, unfortunately the number you gave doesn't tie down the width, could I trouble you to pop the side off again and measure it? Prices quoted by BoL are much better than Proxxon, and Axminster price is just silly.

Thanks again

Hello Duncan

The belt just slides into the Vernier at 9.5mm but it is probably nominal 10mm which would fit fine as there is a bit of clearance to the flange of the splined drive.

Good luck

Tim

Thanks, ringing BoL as soon as I've done my domestic chores

Just to round this off, BoL don't do a 285 tooth belt, either 280 or 290. Careful measuring up using a strip of paper showed that 280 would just fit, so ordered Monday afternoon. Arrived today and it's now all running. In case anyone else is searching in future, the belt spec is MXL section, 3/8" wide

Axminster wanted £25, Proxxon wanted £15.84, I got 2 from BoL for just over £12 so I've got a spare now

Thanks again
