New Mill

So, I will be adding a mill to my workshop. The criteria will be R8 and no larger than the Warco WM16 (which isn’t R8).

My choices are;

1. SPG SP 2217-lll B LV

2. Amadeal VM25LV

3. Arc SX2.7L

Any advice / comments will be greatly appreciated.

With a choice of only threej ust make a careful comparison, of each with the other two, and decide for yourself?

I would buy the ARC option, after checking with them that it would do what I wanted it for.

I would suggest which, is an almost impossible question to answer by anyone other than yourself, since I can't imagine anyone has experience of all three. Colours to the mast, I have an SX2.7 which I am very pleased with, I looked at the L variant and decided I didn't need it, and thus far I haven't. Both The SPG and Amadeal machines look to be essentially the same, and marginally larger than the Sieg, although whether this tranlates to greater capacity is moot. They both appear to have a 2 speed arrangement for the belt drive which possibly means better torque at low speed though this hasn't caused me any problem. They also seem to have some sort of tilting head which personally I wouldn't want at all, having gone to great lengths to tram the head, to voluntarily disturb this seems perverse, as well as having to do it all again.

R8 is certainly the better choice, all things being equal, and whilst I and others are full of praise for the service from Arc, I have no reason to believe the other two suppliers would be any less satisfactory. All the above is likely useless in helping you make a choice, good luck with it.

Another vote for the SX2.7 from me. I'm a very happy Arc customer.

My son has an X2.7L The long bed is useful, and means that a vice can be left on the machine almost all the time regardless of what else is to be done.

Ken, I have no knowledge of option 1 or 2 so sorry I have no comparison to offer.

However I am a happy owner of SX2.7L from ARC. Other users have mentioned the longer table on L version, what I particularly liked is its also a little wider at 125mm rather than 100mm. I thought this wider table would give better stability with any larger work pieces.

I've had this mill for 6 months and its done all I ask and capable of much more. ARC's service before, during and after sale have been exceptional together with Jason's articles and videos have made owning and getting started with this mill a pleasure.
