Can you post some pics and details which heads and tape you bought. I want a similar system on my SX2.7 but finding that there are so many different type to choose from.

I have the ES-8A Readout, so slightly different from your one. I also installed the compact heads with tape.

1) The Brackets were far too large for my SX2.7, hence why I manufactured my own, which I believe is pretty common.

2) The manual for the ES-8A is not too bad. I have used the basic functions including PCD, Lhole and SDM, but must admit that I have NOT used the Arc function as yet, so cannot comment on that at the moment.

Good luck with deciphering the manual.

Thanks for the information. All looks very neat!

I bought the Easson 3-Axis also from M-DRO with the micro tape and made my own brackets out of Aluminium angle and stuck the tape to that. As yet, I only have fitted X&Y. Very pleased with the result.

What i really meant was the difference between the two Magnetic types i.e. the Mini Head encoder with Tape or the M-DRO EH-05 linear magnetic encoder.

I'm now at the stage of wanting to install a DRO on my Sieg SX2.7 Mill and now looking for advice / information.

Whilst I appreciate that the “Mini Head Tape” style is smaller than the Linear Encoder, is there any other benefits or otherwise? There is very little difference in the cost.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

My choices are;

1. SPG SP 2217-lll B LV

2. Amadeal VM25LV

3. Arc SX2.7L

Thanks to all who responded.

My WM240B arrived and is now set up, cleaned and checked; all seems ok. The Warco process was faultless, ordered and arrived within one week.

Ancillaries from Arc and cutting tools from Glanze, all of which seem to be of reasonable quality.

Now the hunt begins for a Mill of a size that will suit my requirements, which is not massive. Perhaps WM16 or SP2217-III LV (R8).

Thanks to all for the response.

I note that a Sieg SC4 has been mentioned, so can I ask what the preference would be vs a 240 either Warco or Amadeal? The budget is there for either. Along with the lathe will be a milling machine such as X2.7 or AMA VM25 / Warco WM16B.

The equipment will be used for pure Hobby (no locomotives) and restricted to whatever the aforementioned equipment can handle.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.
