86 forum posts 95 photos | Hi all I have a Colchester toolpost but unfortunately I have no tool holders. I'd like to make some but due to its design I can't easily get an accurate measurements from the toolpost it's self. I've attached some pictures that I've found on line. If any one has this toolpost, could I get some dimensions of your tool holder please. Thanks Steve |

If so have a look for an article in MEW recently by Jaques Maurel about measuring angles. He has shown a neat pin and plate jig to help measure angles accurately, and it is really simple to make. It will allow high accuracy measurement of the dovetails. |

86 forum posts 95 photos | Bob Astill Thanks iv just subscribed to his channel. Jeff Dayman The problem I have is that one side of the dovetail on the tool post has 2 angles so it's quite difficult to get a good measurement. See attached. |

2356 forum posts 47 photos | Hi Steve, Thanks for the sketch, it clears things up a bit. Attached sketch below shows how the angle positions could be measured using Mr Maurel's jig and a modified version of it to establish the angled face locations. Hope it helps. Note that in each case the pins are screwed to the plates to make the jigs easier to hold in use, and the plate edge is back from the pin dias to ensure you are measuring from pin face as intended, not plate face or edge. |
