I am trying to rebuild a small air/vacuum pump

It's like a mains-powered version of the popular tyre inflator, and was rather better built. ... until someone had a go at fixing it.

The big-end bearing appears to have about +/- 10 degrees of angular play, but most of that is in the housing !!

A few drops of Loctite 'Bearing Fit' would probably have fixed the original problem ... BUT the genius technician decided to do this instead:

crying 2 ... Yes, folks ... it's been 'staked' or 'peened' ... or some-such ... crying 2

.

This is going to be an interesting restoration

Edit: for scale ... the bearing is 1/4" bore

Looks a bit thin in the wall to bore and bush. Brass shim perhaps?

Or machine a replacement from solid, then you'll know that it's right.
