Hi Guys on my 5” tTch I am looking at the drawing of the safety valve an it is just like the rest of the drawings some dims are missing and looks like a nightmare and guesswork as I have not committed to making it yet and believe in open licence is it best to purchases one and know it works.

I have Google images on the tich and i see not many people follow the drawings on the safety valve advice please

Thanks Kevin

Kevin,

Dont want to sound too negative but to save a lot of grief buy one. Preferably the pop type. Its too important a part to take chances.

I concur - buy one or buy the ball and spring kit (blackgates?) as they can be tricky to get right

Polly sell the Gordon Smith safety valve drawings for 50p and have the springs and balls to match.

They probably don't list a one for a 5" Tich, but they give some indication of suitability for loco size

I have yet to see a loco fitted with this design safety valves fail the accumulation test

+1 for the Gordon Smith design. LBSC was notoriously cavalier in his safety valve design - "Nicks" usually summed up the size of the steam escape holes in the cap.
