What is the cheapest price in recent years a 5” gauge live steam loco has been sold for?

Ive seen one on Ebay a flying Scotsman for £2800. It’s not been run in 15 years, the boiler needs re-commissioning and a good clean, rust removal, a new coat of paint. Is this the starting price you could expect for one that’s in working condition but needs good tidy up, or have you seen cheaper?

What is the average price for one in working condition?

The one on Ebay is an interesting old model, though perhaps not especially well built. If you buy it, you must be prepared for a complete rebuild and possibly a new boiler. I think it is too expensive for what it is. You can find a practical working 5 inch gauge loco with a good boiler for around that price, though it will probably not be a Pacific.

LBSC used to advise - "Never part with the money until you have seen it in steam " - which is still a good rule.
