Hello all, was offered an Arboga U2508 Mill today for restoration, for 100 quid being assured by the old chap selling it, works OK. Theres no power to the machine so cant check, but apart from some rust, looks in good condition. So the question is, are these mills any good, ie, up to the usual excellent Swedish quality ?. Many thanks. PS, sorry for picture on its side.2017_0906_01463900.jpg

I looked at one a few years ago, the owner was thinking of selling but no price was mentioned. They look to be very nice machines, any problems are covered in lathes.co.uk. I don't think you can go wrong at that price despite the rust.

I owned one for many years. It is a good and solid industrial type mill.

My only complaints were:

1. It took some effort to raise and lower the head, the handle for this being at the back of the mill, and

2. You really need the screw in taper holders. I didn't have any to start with, and the mills would drop out of the head. I made some in the end, screwcut them on my ML10 lathe- 62mm by 1.25 I think from memory.

Otherwise you have a very solid mill there.

John

Many thanks for the replies, I think it will be my next project !. John, it does look a bit awkward to raise the head, which would mean leaving space behind the machine to get at the lever !. No machine is perfect I suppose. Cheers.
