109 forum posts 3 photos | Can anyone tell me the pitch of the m16 thread in the mt4 taper? I suspect it's 2mm but have no way of checking. Again I am assuming these things are standard. |

7517 forum posts 20 photos | I'm sure someone will confirm the pitch. But you could buy a bolt? Or take your MT4 along to somewhere that sells studding or bolts and check it out? Agri dealers, ironmonger/hardware stores, building suppliers all come to mind as possibles. I'll see if I can hunt out a bolt tomorrow, and try it, if nobody else responds. |

5563 forum posts 322 photos | Assuming that you are asking as you want to make a drawbar, go to somewhere selling studding, find a bit that fits, and buy a length, cut off what you need. For a slightly posher version, buy stainless studding. No need for any exotic steel for a MT drawbar, you do not need a very high retaining force, it would just make the taper stick. |

109 forum posts 3 photos | Thanks for the replies. Can't get 16mm studying locally so was going to get off the net. Which is why I needed the size. Also need to get a tap. |

7517 forum posts 20 photos | Oops! Sorry, I wasn't thinking properly last night. Both my MT4 taper fittings are reducing sleeves, so no thread needed and no thread present.
Edited to add that it might be imperial if the tooling is old (5/8 Whitworth thread?). Edited By not done it yet on 13/07/2017 16:05:18 |

![]() 943 forum posts 10 photos | I've found our nearest roundabout to be a good source for large size studding. As builders trucks go round it, they regularly shed unsecured bits of their load, and I've got M16, M20 & M24 studding off the tarmac. In fact, over the years the supply has exceeded my demand so clearing the road to prevent punctures [honest, guv Regards, Richard.

![]() 2549 forum posts 235 photos | Checking the pitch for something as large as M16 is not a problem, just put a piece of paper in the hole and press it against the threads with your finger. Remove the paper and measure the pitch of the marks on the paper. Martin C |
