102 forum posts | Morning all! I’ve now had a good bit of workshop time to get used to my newest (impulse) purchase – a Boxford shaper! It’s a later version with fixed table and both power feeds, and seems to of had a very easy life, it could probably do with a strip and clean, new belts etc but apart from that it’s in good nick. However! – When I first got it, there was a little play in all the gibs so I went around and re-tweaked everything and it runs great… but one of the gib screws on the bottom of the table snapped. Need to get it on the drill press and see what I can do. Anyone know how to remove the table? I thought you could just unscrew the lead screw nut from the table then pull it off the dovetails but it seems the nut is still captive in the back of the table somehow, and is stopping it from coming off the rails. Any ideas? Cheers, Nick |

![]() 1494 forum posts 403 photos | When I refurbed my Alba I seem to remember I had to remove the leadscrew before I could get the table saddle of. If I needed to just remove the table then it is a simple matter of removing several retaining nuts within the table casting and the table would pull of. I realize that the design of your beauty will possibly differ from mine but that was MY experience. Rik Edited By Rik Shaw on 24/03/2017 10:40:58 |

102 forum posts | Thanks for the replies, Yes I have unbolted the lead screw nut but it seems to still be connected to the rear of the table some how, it looks like this is all that is stopping the table coming off. The screws are still available from Boxford, just need to be able to get this snapped one out! Cheers, Nick |

13 forum posts | Hi It is over twenty five years since I had the table off my Boxford Shaper to replace the lead screw nut. If my memory serves me right I to had the same problem and I had to take the gib out and pull the table forward off the slide to get enough clearance to fully release the lead screw nut location boss from the back of the table. I can remember there was very little clearance it was a close fit and a struggle but it came out. With the nut removed you can withdraw the table off the slide to the left
Cheers Paul. |

102 forum posts | Hi Paul, thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly you have confirmed my inital thought - can't get the table off without pulling out the gib first! I'll have to remove the saddle with table attached then see what I can do, Cheers all! Nick |
