I've been reading the article by Mr. Laurie Leonards in MEW 251 regarding porting his VFD between different machines.

A good idea I think, and something I could use myself. I was wondering how the requirement for emergency stops were incorporated in this system. Can the author enlighten me please?

I haven't got access to the article but wouldn't the pendant move from machine to machine too?

The only problems I can think of would be that unless your motors were the same you would need to tweak the parameters from machine to machine

I'm sure the manual that came with my VSD states it's not recommended to fit a plug anywhere in the 3 phase supply line though.

Yes the pendant moves. But the pendant does not have an emergency stop on it. The author has used the same motor type on both his lathe and Mill hence inverter parameters don't need to be altered.

I think those Jaguar IMO inverters have a pair of low voltage terminals that require continuity before the unit will work.

So I'm tentatively thinking here that the interlocks and E stop on the machine could be wired in series to these terminals.

Would a Myford and Tom Senior even have any additional e-stops ?

I've set my stop button to coast to a stand still on my Boxford AUD. When setting up the E-stoppel I obviously wanted the chuck to come to a stop much faster. Not a good idea to set it much less than .8 of a second.

Oh was I glad I had a 1" x 8" piece of brass in the chuck. 😉

The Jaguar inverters can be programmed to accept both NO and NC switches for control functions. See www.model-engineer.co.uk/news/article/3-phase-conversion-and-other-alternative-methods-of-powering-a-mini-lathe for how I wired up mine.
