ME 4548 Middleton V4

Reversing block p783 Fig 2 On the front elevation there are two holes M8 x 12 on the plan view they are marked as 8BA. There is also a hole in the centre of the block marked Drill M3. Is that tapped M3 or drill 3.0 Dia.

Endplate p782 Fig 1 Three holes within the dotted outline of the reversing block are shown as 2 tapped 4BA and 1 tapped M8. Surely these need to be clearance holes.

Diane sent your queries to the author, Rodney Oldfied and he returned the following answer.

The original drawings used are Middleton’s own to which Rodney has made some minor additions.

This is his reply:

Hi Diane
I am sorry I failed to pick these points up on the original drawings.
Reversing block page783 should read - tap M8 not 8BA.
Centre of block should read - drill and tap M3 or 5BA.
Yes, you are right the holes in the end plate should be 2 outer holes M4 clearance and the middle hole 8m clearance.

The revised drawing for the pivot block (fig9) in 4452 seems to have got lost and the incorrect one printed.

This is what the part should be like

Also in part two teh smaller cylinders are shown as being tapped M6, these should have been shown as 5BA the same as the larger cylionders.
