Chris Walter has submitted a redrawn Fig 27 (M.E. issue 4540) after it was pointed out that:

  • "the valve eccentric OD is shown as 1 1/16" but on page 253 the eccentric strap is shown as having a bore of 1" with a brass sleeve bringing the ID to 15/16".

Chris replies:

  • "The reader is quite right in stating that their is a discrepancy. My fault entirely as the drawing of the straps shows two wrong dimensions. I had not updated these when redesigning the straps after increasing the diameter of the eccentrics.
The dims affected are the ineternal bore of the eccentric and its bush.
As the eccentric is correct this will not affect the part [he has] already finished.
All the other dimensions on the straps remain the same so the fix will be to bore the straps to the new dimension and make larger bearing bushes to match, if he has got passed this stage

A new drawing to replace fig 27 can be found here:

Hi there

ulf-g@telia.com says: I am sorry to say that the link in Chris reply can not be open. An other thing: I can not find the mesurment between center of eccentric to center of crankshaft.

Welcome to the Forum

I have asked Diane to sort out the link.

There is a note in Fig 26 that the eccentric throw is 1/2in, looking at the proportions I would say that is total throw so the hole should be offset 1/4" from centre.
