I got this today and I can't say I can find any information on it or how to use it.

The drill is a Milwaukee Heavy Duty but the name plate has worn off.

The chuck is an Elliott Tool Dayton Ohio but their website doesn't show anything like this.

I am pretty certain it is for tapping holes but I have only see anything like it from afar.

Anyone got a manual for this thing or atleast know what it is called?

If it is for tapping there will be jaws inside the tool head which can hold a square tap end (likely to be adjustable, too). But tapping also requires a reversing function - to get the tap back out of the hole, so is there anything like this?

A photo of the inside of the chuck would help, I'm sure.

Cheers, Tim

Assuming it is a high torque slow RPM drill

Are you sure it is not a nut runner for removing/tightening nuts

Or a drill to take a stirrer for mixing heavy material  ie plaster etc

It looks to me as a nut cracker taking wheel nuts of vehicles

There was a piece of wire that kept the chuck axially placed.

In the chuck there is a square hole which by ruler looks to be 10mm. The tool end of the chuck can be pushed back which cause a small ball in one corner (not on the flat) of the square to retract. I am guessing thats the holding method but there is only 1 ball.

The drill does have a reverse and it turns slowly. That and the funky chuck were what made me thing it was for tapping.

Elliot make a number of tools for pipework, amoung them are tube expanders that have a male square drive with notched corner for teh ball. You have just got a heavy Milwaukee drill with a driver for this type of tool

Edit, look at page 82 of Elliott's catalogue

Ah heck thats a niche product

Thanks for the info though. Worked out that I can screw off everything and put a normal chuck on. Shame it isn't a tapping chuck but atleast I got a nice drill.
