Hi,

Can anyone suggest where I could have an original worn leadscrew thread refurbished or remade. My lathe machine is to small to accept the length and bore through spindle to remake a new one.

Currently the worst of the backlash is central and being around 60" to 70" thou.is far to much play. The half nut appears to be ok.

I would welcome any suggestions thank you.

John

Could the screw be plated back up to size?

We used to do a similar thing with LandRover steering 'balls' when they got pitted. Had them chromed up then ground back to size.

Don't know about the Centec but are you sure the nut isn't worn rather than the lead screw. On both of the mills I've had the nut is bronze and the lead screw steel.

On my Centec 2B, the quick release mechanism keeps coming loose, so the nut on the feed screw goes all sloppy.

Check for play there - you never know if you have the same issues as I do...
