I am building the large boiler for Tich.

Am I right in thinking that there are no stays in the throatplate?

The book describes stays going through the backhead and through the sides of the firebox, but no mention of any coming through the throatplate. I can't see them shown on the drawings either, but someone has recommended that I put some in.

What have other builders done?

Looking at the drawing in the book it appears that there are three stays connecting the throatplate to the firebox.

Hello Richard, Norman is right. The GA shows two, but the actual drawing of the small boiler shows three. They don't appear to be mentioned in the text, below, if you don't have access to the original series. Hope this helps.
