Can any builder of the BR2 comment on the fit of the cylinders into the crankcase of the BR2?

As the crankcase is steel and the cylinders are aluminium do I need to allow for this? If so how much.

What sort of fit is required for the cylinder to the crankcase, Also is any sealant used in assembly? Any help would be appreciated.

You have a message directing you towards a couple of BR2 builders.

Hi. David. I'm building the BR2, but taking all the external detail from the original plans in the book, but constructing all the internal workings from the Hodston plans. The scale is different between the two, so the crankcase is to the American plans. My crankcase is Aluminium with cast iron cylinders and Ali. cooling muffs shrunk on. I've allowed a couple of thou between the two to achieve a close sliding fit, so it can be adjusted at a later stage, should the need arise. Mick

Since posting I read the Air Publication 359 at the back of the Blackmore book. It indicates a loose fit of cylinder into crankcase and no mention of sealing. I think I will allow 2 thou off the diameter.

Thanks JasonB for directing me to the IC Engine web and to mick for agreeing with the 2 thou.
