Can anyone identify this lathe?

Hi all,

My dad acquired this lathe from a neighbour who built model steam engines, but passed away suddenly. I am a toolmaker and set the lathe up for him, but we have no idea what make/model it is, as there is no makers name on it, just casting numbers.

If anyone could identify it for us, it would be greatly appreciated. It seems a good little lathe, but we have yet to take a cut on it.

Thanks.

The tail stock reminds me of a Portass lathe I once owned. See www.lathes.co.uk for pictures that may help.

Its a Drummond "M" Type. Built in Guildford between 1925 and 1943, and then by Myford for the remainder of the decade. Some may date into the early 50's.

Hi Gary, I agree with Ralph, most likely a Drummond or Myford M type.

Regards Nick.

Thankyou all for the replies, it looks like we have a Drummond M type from the information you have given. If there is anyone that can pass on any tips about running this model of lathe, it would be greatly appreciated. Just hope my dad gets a bit more done on his Minnie traction engine now he has a new toy!!
