9 forum posts | I have obtained a GA plan of the 40T GWR Toad Guards Van from the NRM. This gives overall dimensions - enough to work from - but there is no plan of the underframe and they are unable to help. Any scale plan of the chassis would be of great help.Tried Googling same but it is of little help. Does anyone know where to start? Shaun |

Described in issue 4017, (17 May 1996), but later serialised in 4146 (18 May 2001), 4148, 4150, 4152, 4154. Neil |

183 forum posts 20 photos | Good evening Shaun, Bazyle's suggestion re the GWR Toad drawings From Doug Hewson, although it is for 5" gauge it wouldn't be to onerous to scale it up for 71/4" gauge, fortunately the DH drawing does give details of both the underframe construction and running gear together with detail of the interior and I would recommend obtaining copies of those drawings. The works GA certainly shows the construction of the van itself but the GA of the chassis and running gear would appear as separate drawings and I'm not to certain the NRM even has a copy of those drawings. Regards, Bob Youldon |

![]() 19226 forum posts 749 photos 86 articles | From the last but one article of Keith wilson's: "Doug Hewson has written to me about Toads, with some useful constructive criticism-I like. He has available some quite fine drawings for a 5" Toad, much more detailed than mine. So its a matter of choice-if you want what might be described as a 'working' Toad, with lots of water and storage space, then go for mine. If you prefer the highly detailed type, then get is drawings and 'blow them up'." Neil |

9 forum posts | Many thanks to all those who took the time and trouble to reply to my request - you can always rely on fellow model engineers! I will follow up the leads that have been suggested later on this week. The NRM did not have plans of the running gear but for all that they were most helpful, they seem to be really pleased to be of assistance. To paraphase Captain Mainwaring "No one spotted my "deliberate" mistake". The Toad's tare according to the Swindon sheet I have states the van's weight was increased from 24 tons to 25 tons 0 cwt 0 qtr on the 25-2-21 not 40T as I said - always check the drawing before commiting oneself. Thanks to you all - Shaun |
