I have put a myford taper turning attachment on a power crossfeed Super7, are there any problems likely by disengaging the cross slide from the feed screw ?

No except try not to disengage the key in the cross slide feed screw nut by winding the cross slide out too far. You do need to wind it out far enough to do the job in hand with the compound slide set round 90 deg to apply the cut when using the taper turning attachment.

It can of course be re- engaged but it can be a bit of a fiddle to do.

The gear that the cross slide drive uses has the key built into it and the way is in the screw.

I usually disengage the gear box and pull out the cross slide drive selector knob then by turning the carriage drive wheel you can spin that keyed gear while you are at the same time trying to screw the cross slide back in.

It does take some finesse but soon you will find they mesh up and then push the drive selector back in and thread the slide back together.
