Hi All

The page has been inserted "Insert menu raster image" as a background. (Just a screen grab from the PDF enlarged to fill the screen) Bigger is better.

Then scaled to fit as metric in Autocad. using the "Scale" command.

Using the table as a reference 16 inches = 406.4mm I got it to within .01 of a mm That L Do!
The z axis not quite as good but within a mm

So the plans were in good condition when they were scanned.
Is anyone interested in building one?

As is? or should we change it..... A Timing belt on the bull wheel maybe.

Regards
John

Very nicely done, John

It's way bigger than I have in mind for mine

But if the plans are that good, they would be easy to scale-down.

John - looks like a nicely sized machine for model engineering. I have just found these items which may be useful starting points for ideas on mechanical auto lifting of shaper tools, which might interest someone who decides to build the machine, or add to an existing shaper.

Michael - unfortunately I don’t think they will be applicable in your quest, but may be interesting nevertheless.

(Note that “Patent” language, US or British, is drafted in a rather unusual style)

Two excellent finds, Dave

Thanks for posting the links ... very interesting.

[I'm fairly comfortable with "Patent" language]

Hi North

Thank you for the patents

I normally get them from

Hi All

I have uploaded a group of screenshots to my album of the main casting being cut from solid with AutoCAD, If you are new to solid models they are numbered and you can see how the casting model is developed.

The process used was to extrude a tool (a 3d solid Shape) then use that to cut away (Subtract command) unwanted areas. Other features like the gear housing on the side and the various bosses were made separately as solids then attached with the union command. internal and external corners were shaped with the fillet command.

Having the plan in the background to sketch over is a great help, This is the first time I have tried this on a 3D. model, normally I just use it for building floor plans. A really great way to do it.

The model has been thickened for casting with Epoxy concrete.

The table support frame is next, I think that can be done in epoxy casting too, once that is done I will do the rest of the parts in steel. rounding off the inch sizes in the original plans to metric sizes.

The Shaper should be able to cut its own T slot table!

Would anyone like to draw some of the mechanical parts and share the design load?

I will post the DXF and DWG files on Mediafire for downloading when the design is debugged.

Regards
John
