![]() 4318 forum posts 291 photos 1 articles | Someone recently pointed out that much carbide tooling needs to be worked fast so that the heat generated softens the cut, but the reciprocating action of a shaper limits the speed that can be achieved. That said I know some tipped tooling is meant for finer cuts and slower speeds, but this is the area where the superiority of tipped tools over HSS becomes a moot point. Neil |

248 forum posts 22 photos | Hi,
I too have an Elliot 10m. Since all the tooling (and crank handles for that matter) were lost in shipping. I purchased these 2 books: The shaping machine -- Ian Bradley, MAP technical publishing. Lathe and shaping machine tools - duplex - TEE publishing
I also joined the yahoo shaper group. There are some interesting downloads in the files section. Regarding the insert tooling; I am thinking the Button Type Profile Tools SRDCN (that amongst others greenwood tools sell, no connection) might be worth a try for getting uner the skin of castings. Has anyone tried any insert tooling?
