Guy Martin did a programme on Channel 4.

At about 30 mins in, there is a discussion on battery fires and some examples.

This was our local filling station when an aircon unit in the shop caught fire and gutted the shop. I take my hat off to the firefighter in the picture and the shop staff who kept their heads and implemented the shutdown in event of fire procedure, I would have been the guy showing Usain Bolt a clean pair of heals.

Is it noteworthy that many of the hybrids place fuel tank and battery adjacent to each other? Risk multiplication?

More dangerous than the in-tank electric fuel pump with loose wiring and connectors all submerged in petrol at all times that is standard in most cars today? Seems counter-intuitive but they tell us it's not dangerous. Although, there are 100,000 car fires a year in the UK, most of them petrol cars. They never say exactly what causes them though.
