What Metal is this?

I wouldn't fancy milling it but I have no decent milling experience

If I had to I would remove as much metal as possible via drilling and turning

Once you finish though, whatever it is will be virtually indestructible

Am reminded of a bargain length of steel at the club auction many years ago, which was mine for the sole bid of 50p.
I rejoined my chum, who was chatting with his brother, to celebrate my win when they remarked one to the other 'I see somebody bought the boomerang' Didn't see a boomerang said I. It transpired that I had bought the very boomerang in the form of the steel bar that had apparently been bought, attempted unsuccessfully to be machined, before being returned to the next auction, several times over. Sad to relate, it was later returned yet one more time.
