4655 forum posts 304 photos | We have a model A mk1.5 at The Helicopter Museum, Weston Super Mare. Given to the museum when Westlands left the town. It has a very worn bed, but still turns pretty true. We have carried out many modifications and repairs over the last few years. |

71 forum posts 26 photos | I have a Model M Mk 1, which I'm about 50% through renovating. I'm also drawing it in Onshape as I go, the drawings are all public if you have an account (free). So far I've drawn the headstock and saddle. |

4655 forum posts 304 photos | I was just browsing this old thread and noticed a question asked by Steve King 5 about his Smart & Brown model A. The answer was in error. His lathe has the revised apron, but the original cast iron stand. It is a Mk 1.5, not a Mk 2. The other improvement to the Mk 2 is the single control to engage the back gear, which cannot be identified in general pictures. The Mk 1 and 1.5 require a locking bolt retracting from the pulley before the back gear is engaged. The Mk 2 maximum speed is 1800 rpm, the older ones only 1425 rpm. |
