I am observing this debate with some interest The thing that surprises me most is that no-one has mentioned the supremely practical 'mission' of RepRap. Before these things became so commercialised, the dream was "self-replicating machines" ... Surely there is nothing more practical than a machine which can reproduce many of its own structural parts MichaelG. . Here's a rather compelling argument that the original RepRap mission was misguided, or at least hopelessly optimistic, certainly not practical. It's a balanced view that recognises what Reprap has achieved and the consequences of involving real humans... Neil |
