Thread: 3.5mm hex. head screws
21/11/2021 14:56:55

Not quite, because it is hex with a slot, but perhaps useable, Niko. **LINK**

You can break most of the twist off and regrind what is left. Niko.

Thanks Niko but I don't think that I'm up to sharpening a drill that small. Having said that, I could give it a go.

David

That small I sharpen them out of hand on a flat grinding stone, it takes a little practise but works. Niko.

Thread: Metric Screwcutting on Super 7B with 127 Tooth gear

127 works fine, just be careful where you put your fingers when you have the cover off. Niko.

Thread: Myford ml7 "parting off"and "max working size"
22/10/2021 14:59:40

Whatever lathe you have, by times you will go to its limits. Myford is for most of the work I do more than large enough. In the picture the exception, it cleared the bed but not by much. Niko.

Thread: From where I might be able to source some 1300 micron (1.3mm) mild steel sheet?
21/10/2021 12:28:18

This one sells 1.30 mm C75 springsteel of 25 mm width **LINK** but no indication of minimum order quantity.

19/10/2021 21:30:19

The closest I can find has a thickness (starke) of 1.25 mm, dimensions you can select from 50x50 mm minimum. Hope your German is up to date but they write that it is magnetic and do deliver to the UK. **LINK** https://www.metallparadies.de/stahlblech-glatt-0-75-6-0-mm-staerke-bis-2x1m.html Niko.

Gave up following this thread but do admire the patients responders hat with Brian.

Thread: Hardening gauge plate (O1)
28/09/2021 13:44:19

I use DIN 1.2510 but as far as I can see it is the same type of steel. Oil hardening goes without problems but small items loose heat very quickly and optimum hardness is then not reached. I hold small parts in tweezers/pliers close to the oil container and quench quickly without hesitation. Niko.

Someone else not paying attention, as I previously said I used 1/4" BSP which is 19tpi and 0.518" OD. That's why there is a 19G thread gauge in one of the photos.

Very sorry for the mistaken gender of Doreen. Niko.

Who or what is Doreen?

Reading previous posts by Brian, Doreen seems to be a much loved and well used Myford lathe.

Thread: Saving the Planet … or is it ?
13/09/2021 19:43:44

No need to save our planet, whatever we do it will be around another 5 billion years or so. Niko.

Thread: Hello from the Netherlands
06/09/2021 11:16:30

Thanks Maarten and also Noel.

The pin making machine is technic from the 1980's but still handy to have. It works with wire diameters from 0.15 mm to 0.45 mm in steps of 0.01 mm, although I fed it ones with 0.65 mm brass wire to make pins for a bell movement cylinder. On average it notches a 1000 pins an hour depending on pin length. Niko.

Thread: Myford super 7 lead screw

If it has power cross feed than also the keyway in the lead screw has to line up with the key in the bevel pinion. Niko.

Hello Maarten,

This time in English since that is the language of this forum.

Yes, I have done work for Museum Speelklok **LINK** but that was a long time ago. I stopped with working for them, too much problems about money. After 41+ years I am winding down on repair work, done it enough and also because of personal circumstances. You can see and hear some work I have done on **LINK** Niko.

Niko.

Dag Niko, leuk zo'n welkom! Ben echt een beginner, dus alle hulp en advies is meer dan welkom. Doe je ook werk voor speelklok tot pierement? Ben geintresseerd in automata. Ik zit oostelijk van Utrecht en werk vlakbij stadion Galgenwaard. Hartelijke groet,

Maarten

Thread: Aging fingers
24/08/2021 18:46:59

I am at an age (65) that my fingers give not much trouble yet, therefore cannot advice you about that. But as you, I like the handwork and can definitely confirm that filing, cutting and sawing etc. goes much better with a Mahler symphony or a Rachmaninov piano concert on. Sun is a bit problematic since it blinds me because of a wrongly placed window. Niko.

I feel like giving up sometimes, why not just got to the web address for Huco that is in Speelworks posted image, then go to products and then gears which give you this. Do you need more help getting to a specific type of gear................

......................you found your link by doing a separate search for Huco

No as I said it's in the image Speelwork posted, You have even highlighted what I said in your quote!

"why not just got to the web address for Huco that is in Speelworks posted image" NOT LINK

I've highlighted it for you, can't really make it any clearer.

I ordered from Madler Germany directly or from their Dutch branche Koppe, for little money they even made it to your spefication, all very friendly and helpfull, just phone or mail them. Do not know of course about Huco but expect them to be the same. Niko.
