You could try spraying some belt dressing on the belt. |
Thread: Wind vane project |
26/12/2017 13:48:20 |
The blacksmiths way of making weather vane bearings is solid rod at the top with a loose fitting tube on the vane. When you put the vane over the upright you put two marbles up the tube and these act as the bearing.

Our local Indian Restaurant cottoned on years ago that not everyone likes Christmas and opens Christmas day. Same prices as normal and no decorations! |

25mm box section x 1.6mm should do it. |

I would assume that you could swap them, as when they are sharpened you only grind the top of the dies. |

50% of all taxes raised are spent on the welfare system ( This includes state pensions) How much more should be spent?

Why do we need to spend billions on very expensive equipment and systems to police anywhere in the world that the politicians fancy takes them. I would have thought that we have had our fingers burnt enough, I speak as a veteran of 22 years service, there are needs that should be addressed at home, we are heading for bankruptcy as a nation unless we curb our extravagant spending, that is government spending and the ever rising personal debt mountain, we should be focus sing on real important issues such as welfare and poverty which afflicts our elderly population. I was once told by a submariner that there are only submarines or targets at sea!

All our submarines are still steam powered! Submarines are boats - not ships

They could use rockets similar to those used on Hercules for quick take off on short runways. Posted by Samsaranda on 21/12/2017 12:40:50:
Re: the non provision of steam catapult because the aircraft are VTOL , a recent report in the press stated that F35 aircraft, which will equip the carriers some time in the future, have serious problems with being over weight for the power of the engines and this seriously compromises their ability to operate off carriers, maybe the omission of a steam catapult is a serious design error. We may need to operate alternative aircraft, perhaps Harriers, oh forgot we threw them all away, perfectly serviceable and would have filled the gap temporarily until the F35's could be made to work to spec., yes I know Harriers are VTOL as well and wouldn't need a steam catapult but a catapult would have kept our options open. One big problem re the catapult, we don't use steam on board modern ships now. The F35's also use the ramp for takeoff - same as the harrier on the CVS, very rarely would VTOL be used, Lofty

It's all done by the computer program. It works out the monthly payments and sends you a letter with no human intervention!

Thread: How should I PROPERLY move a Senior mill and Colchester Master? |
21/12/2017 16:46:30 |
The proper way to lift them is to use lifting eyes and a shackle straight to the hook. Nearly all machines have a threaded hole for lifting. As for moving them horizontally short scaffold poles used as rollers is the safest way. If the ground is soft use 3/4 ply sheets. You will be amazed at the amount of weight you can move on rollers. |

Thread: EN32B Steel |
19/12/2017 19:28:42 |
I use a very good local steel merchant, I tell them what I want the steel for and they tell what I need. Some times it's an EN number sometimes it's a BS number. Best policy is find a merchant you can trust and don't worry to much about the cost. |

Black mild steel will contain all sorts of "crap" as it is normally made from recycled frag steel, that contains high carbon steel, tool steel and boron steel. If you need new mild steel you need to cut it from rsj's, universal beams and columns. I don't know if BMS is made from new steel or recyled crap! |

I rebuild SU and they are made from the worst possible shit imaginable! The also suffer from hydrogen embrittlement which doesn't help! But I will try lumiweld with both a flame and my tig welder. |

It cannot be of a fixed size as if it was a fixed size it would have an edge, therefore if it had an edge then there would be something else the other side of the edge!
