Thread: Time in the workshop |

I have either radio 4 or 4 extra on in the back ground. Usually via the iPad and I player. I agree with Phil there are some good old programmes. I started to listen to dads army again last week, still laughed even though I almost new the lines off by heart. |

David I haven't tried a side ways, just been trying to work out the upside down thing. My iPad has a camea. If I select edit photos, add photos , choose file, I get the option to take a photo or select an existing. I've been selecting photos of my ipad camera roll. Trade your old iPad in for one with a camera. Bob.. |

David I've used my iPad for several posts now. Some of the photos come out upside down at times, not sure why. If you flip them they still look the same on the iPad but they then appear the right way up in your album. Like yours, mine is full of grandchild photos. Bob.. |

I managed to find a couple of hours to start to fit my Jan Ridders engine together. Still a bit to do though.

Thread: Tapping guide |
14/04/2013 21:58:56 |
Thanks. That's the thing. I've made a sketch from YouTube and will have a go at making a proper one. I have one that I knocked up from some studding and tube that I use quite a bit but is a bit clumsy. Bob.. |

Thread: Teflon glide bearings |
06/03/2013 22:07:46 |
My current requires a Teflon glide bearing. I have Delrin rod in the odds box but no Teflon. From the info I've read on delrin it seems more machineable than Teflon but I'm unsure of its "glide" characteristics. Is it a suitable alternative? |
Thread: Paint my LOCO Raffle |
06/03/2013 21:14:11 |
Lee Marvin looked pretty weathered, but that was "paint your wagon" not paint your loco. Is this the sequel? |
Thread: SPARK PLUGS. |
06/03/2013 13:21:18 |
I'm currently building one of Jan Ridders engines. This includes plans for a spark plug, although I'm using a NGK CM 6. Jan specifies teflon for the insulator, steel for the body and steel wire for the electrode. Bob.. |

Thread: Help please on brass |
05/03/2013 10:38:53 |
Hi Bob I use M Machine and have just used college engineering supplies. I'm in the southwest too and haven't found a local supplier to collect new stock from. I do have friendly metal recycling chap who can normally supply short lengths of brass and aluminium rounds and blocks. I pay scrap price for these so it's a cheap source. He usually chucks a few bits in as good will. It may be worth trying the recyclers in your are. I tried a few bigger yards but they were not interested. Regards Bob..

Thread: Cleaning up |

I have a friend who restores old motorcycles. His workshop is cleaner than an operating theatre. |
Thread: Help needed please |
03/03/2013 08:36:46 |
Welcome Mike.
I'm with Thor, if you can go for a separate lathe and mill. I have a couple of SIEG machines, and they do some smaller variants if space is an issue.
Regards
Bob..

We are all guilty of being happy to buy goods being manufactured by children in some cases, being paid a dollar a day or less in the past. This may have been in some cases of ignorance of the practices, or perhaps blind eyes may have been turned. We all have a choice what we buy and how much we want to pay for it. Things may shift as workers in these areas are now not happy for the dollar a day pay check and there is more awareness, and it will become more econominally viable to manufacture closer to the point of use than transport. I fear that until somebody finds some real horse in the horse power rated motors nothing will change. Is that why they have changed the motor rating to watts? I'll keep looking out for the fair price macine tools to go with the workshop cup of coffee. Bob P..

Cold fingers and a cold brain scrapped three hours of work today. Only a small thing I guess. II'll start number three next week. What's your most expensive DIY scrap job? Bob..
