Thread: Latest ME, ELS Article

A small note for anyone wanting more grunt for whatever reason

It apparently depends upon the voltage, so 24V if you're on a hobby setup, 48V for more power and 72V if you're a real man

The Mach3 guys have lots of threads on stepper voltage

Nema 17 at the bottom, Nema 23 in the middle and 34 is the biggie

However there are more alternatives, AC servo motors and other kit that industrial level guys use, it's actually a pretty huge and diverse industry and you need to check that the route you take has the software as well as the hardware to do the job you want if you take a different path

You used to see electric irons plugged into lightbulb sockets. Happy days.

We''ve had 20MPH for a few years in Edinburgh, the police are only really interested in the National rules (30 etc)

About one in 6 drivers bother about them

Camera enforcement would be a different kettle of fish

It would be nice if they could keep bikes on public walkways under 30MPH, now that WOULD be genuinely useful for the public

An old wifi tablet might be an option depending on the hardware

I suppose it's not about what they put in to the kit, it's about all the bits they left out and what you did to get it to satisfactory completion

Model Locos often have an externally constructed boiler and you just plug everything in and away you go.

...oh no wait a minute...

I think most of these things involve a lot of effort and skills from the builder, but you've really got to do one to get the bigger picture

Thread: turning a large diameter

Moral of the thread is "ask old guys technical stuff at 9am and not 11.45pm"

05/09/2023 09:57:19

The amount needing removed is pretty minute

One square is 0.05" (1.27mm)

Thread: An unexpected weight
05/09/2023 09:11:45

The weight has to be for the consumable

There was that water soaked chicken hoo-ha many years ago

05/09/2023 09:05:19

It will be the E bit, "not less than" which is a strictly enforced weight

The little bit of candy in fancy chocolate boxes was in there for that reason

They only want to flog 4 packaged pears

The law demands a minimum packaged weight

That's why I melted the lathe down, for more metal

I suppose you could roll it out into foil to get 39"

A ground 1 meter diameter is going to take some doing if we assume a 1/2 by 2 strip, like the outside of a large clock

A blacksmiths bar roller and nice shiny chrome coating would be easier

I would start by melting down the lathe

If I was king for a day I would buy all the spare stainless rebar from China, negotiate a government quantity package please while their economy is struggling
