I would say that If your hand controls the tool that does the work that creates the item then it is hand crafted So an item created with a DRO counts, but the same item with CAD/CAM does not Basically any item made with hand-eye co-ordination is hand crafted |

There's only one basic route, and there aren't any shortcuts All you're doing is spending vast amounts of time exploring all the unmarked shortcuts |

I seriously doubt that human population growth will ever stop The poor reproduce at an amazing rate and capitalism always produces loads of poor people Arab countries double every 30 years, Africa is a disaster zone, South America is trying to flit to North America China is trying to help by digging up and burning the entire planet to try and emulate the wests level of wealth and stabilise its population Pompei was a huge eye opener for me It used to be a moderate town with Herculaneum up the coast a bit Now the entire area is completely blanketed with houses apart from the immediate caldera around Vesuvius The human rat has expanded at a phenomenal rate AD79 Pompeii is going to look like a minor incident if that thing blows again I found the google picture, it's here Edited By Ady1 on 07/08/2023 01:07:26 |

I've got a wood router which could take a plasma cutter. Fabulous accuracy 0.1mm at super speed. Does perfect curves or whatever you want. But all the operator does is press a button |

CAD/CAM isn't unskilled insofar that it lets you go from a new idea to manufacture within 24 hours It unleashes your creativity by making a complex process very efficient and relatively simple "Manufactured by hand" may be the description, but the lines are blurry Edited By Ady1 on 06/08/2023 14:03:31 |

Anything made on CAD/CAM is commercial because of its portability It's a completely different skill set compared to hand built |

The big difference with cad/CAM is once you've done the bespoke bit you can run a million of them off with machines going 24/7 |

They need to change the classes to Hand built and CAD/CAM/Digital entries You don't even need to be in the same room when these items are being made, the only hand built bit is the cleaning and tarting it up bit |

We're making some big mistakes with trees at the moment The open parkland near me gets grants via the council and they're planting them in useless clumps for speed and efficiency purposes. Stick 'em in the deck and get yer save-the-world cash asap. They should be planting them boulevard style so that as people move about they are in permanent shade Trees absorb massive amounts of sunlight and heat and this needs to be taken advantage of |

Saw your video Your indexed tool looks like its too far away from the job, always cut with the toolpost as close as possible to minimise tool flex When drilling deep I use an old toothbrush dipped in oil to clean the drill flutes and lubricate them between each pass Edited By Ady1 on 03/08/2023 03:11:28 |

The stuff I got was so bad I gave up. A "cobalt" set I got was unbelievably bad, some of them were only good for drilling round corners and one pinged into pieces like glass Lidl stuff is passable basic hss but decent drills just go and go between sharpening The really big difference is when I hand drill steel, it's so much easier. I've been using a teeny 1/8 dormer for pilot holes for a bunch of jobs over the last month and it hasn't even needed resharpening Straight accurate holes up to 13mm have never been so easy... once I got sensible And when you put them into the lathe huge curls of steel peel away from the workpiece, luxury. I've also salvaged every old imperial dormer from every nook and cranny in the garage and placed them in their own dedicated rack, those guys are valuable nowadays Sounds like you got lucky to me, well done you Edited By Ady1 on 03/08/2023 02:54:07 |

There was still one guy still working from the Apollo program on telly a few years ago (4 years?) He was in his 70s Each day he got the reading from a gadget (laser?) on a lonely hill in the USA pointed at a target left by Neil Armstrong (or his buddies) on the lunar surface It was to measure the exact distance between the earth and the moon each day |

If you reference drawing 1 properly and use the same xyz plane arrangement for drawing 2 then you can copy/paste your holes straight over to the second part from the sketch in drawing 1 Its part of thinking ahead and setting the job start-up properly, use the grid and be aware of which plane each part is being drawn in Can save a lot of time and effort later on in a build, it all drops into assembly facing the right way If you have an odd number of holes in a circular arrangement put your first one at 12 o'clock and do a circular repeat Edited By Ady1 on 02/08/2023 11:14:07 |
