Thread: How do I make this ? |

Personally I prefer toggles..but the clips are easier on novices |
08/01/2016 18:46:23 |
I made a load from stainless chain... Bar chain if needed but I used plain Larkshead knot on one end Btw slit the far side from the weld...metal better behaved there Edited By jason udall on 08/01/2016 18:49:20 |

Look the process to establish the pcd is simple ..once you have done it. The article shows an individual's route to that state. If this helps someone who hasn't seen the ( various) idea (s).. Then it serves a purpose. And of course the transfer punch method works even if the original weren't regular ( in the geometric sense)...but not every one has punches or has seen that technique anymore than the pcd derivation. |
Thread: Propane bottle gauge. |
08/01/2016 16:22:00 |
Those liquid crystal gauges work by straddling the level of liquid gas. You then pour boiling or near boiling water on the scale Thus the temperature of the scale below the liquid level doesn't rise as much as the scale above ...the level is indicated but the transition of cold/hot scale. Pretty fool proof but messy |

Thread: Gloves |
31/12/2015 10:45:07 |
One of the truly most unpleasant experience in machining is putting on gloves that swarf has already got into. Brass gets everywhere Gloves save the hands when deburring but it still gets in there. I do use nitrile gloves /gauntlet for chemical protection And leather gloves for hot work. But mostly for machining and swarf clean up I prefer not. One important thing.... Avoid using airlines on hands...it finds cuts in skin...and I have seen it nearly.."deglove"..never to be forgotten. |
Thread: Rotating Centre Problems |
30/12/2015 19:15:52 |
We ( precision engineers ) turned routinely to 5-7 micro meter. If it was needed 3 micro meter. But normaly ( in 3 minute cycle time) 10 micron In most cases ( spindles) these were then centerless ground..and delivered to +/- 2 micron. Finish from grinding I don't recall but oddly some parts rejected as too smooth.. That was with a ppm ( dimentional) figure of < 1 rejects. 1 micro meter is =0.0000393701 inch Or =0.0393701 thou .. And thats a production environment making parts on a 5 min cycle time. Edited By jason udall on 30/12/2015 19:18:42 |
Thread: Casting lead |
22/12/2015 13:07:43 |
Michael.....wow..thats though. |
22/12/2015 11:25:08 |
Adding nothing but this. Two cautions. Lead..toxic Fumes and as has been observed "mist" "aerosol" ..very nasty. The other ..hot molten metal.... For the relatively infrequent user, the latter is by far the most significant ..yes lead/antimony/arsenic/ are accumulated poisons...but slowly ( unless the above said mist).. But a boot full of hot metal is instantly trouble. Just have a care. . |

I have recently read most ( the collected works) of H P Lovecraft. The language is noticeably different ( not just the cthulu mythos words). This is just that. Different not wrong. Read articles from early ME..the language is noticeably different to mainstream English usage of today. ( NOT JUST YUFF SPEEK) I would hope the op intended to plea to be for less disjointed explanations rather than prose style . |
Thread: Syncing up Arduinos |
15/12/2015 20:32:37 |
I too would like to say to Bob congrats on the project. Creative adaption to solve the requirements of syncing the arduino As you yourself said there will be other ways of achieving the electronics bit. But your solution met your needs and as such may prove inspiring to others. |

Normal micro crystals are 10's of ppm 10 micron in a meter? Btw ever read the step "error" figue for a stepper? Yes 200 per rev..but are they equally spaced.. Edited By jason udall on 14/12/2015 18:56:26 |

Thanks So in summary. It was the processing power limitation that indicated dual processor Which in itself required the common processor clock. And the all thread leadscrew ...well..metric lead screw is 60degree anyway. And as to the pitch accuracy ...how do you think all thread is made? I find if you use a long enough "nut"..many of the worries come to nought High quality ( stainless )seems to be better cut.. |

Andy... Many three d printer do indeed use mega. But my favourite arduino is the nano.. That has 14 digital I/o 3 at least are pwm hardware It also has 8 analog inputs which can also be used as digital inputs. To control stepper motors You will need two bits per motor..ie four outputs.. That leaves at least ten pins for" ratio" say. And two analog pins for "speed".. But yes heaven forbid use a mega/ramps/stepper kit.. ?32 for 1A stepper |

Thaks for taking the trouble to respond Bob . I still wonder why two arduino . why not one device . 3d printers have 4 co-ordinated axis. achived with a single processor. Edited By jason udall on 14/12/2015 16:51:27 |
14/12/2015 16:33:49 |
I too saw this. And wondered why two arduino. Yes if using two then it provides a sync ( mostly) between the two processors . |
