Thread: DRO TECH QUESTION
09/10/2020 21:17:49

Hi martin thank you , can you direct me to that link please? ray

09/10/2020 18:38:42

HI i am contemplating buying another DRO for my mill.

Short of buying a very expensive unit such as a Newlall or similar, there are currently numerous china made DRO units on Ebay for less than £75.

I currently have a number of magnetic reader heads all with the standard 9 pin plug. Assuming I purchased a china made unit , or any other unit with a 9 pin fitting. , what are the chances of my magntic reader heads working with a strange main unit? do they all use a similar language to comminicate.?. This question is assuming the box I may buy has the same 9 pin plug as my readr heads. thank you

Thread: TOOL BOXES
30/06/2020 22:53:53

HI,

I am wondering what make of tool boxes you all use.

I have Britool multi drawer boxes which are excellent and also a number Wolf multi drawer Boxes. The Wolf ones are very close to the Britool quality... Short of paying SNAP on prices, which make of boxes do you all use. For several months I have tried in vain to buy more WOLF boxes, but they have totally disappeared .!!! Appreciatte your thoughts on various makes and their quality of construction. thank you

Thread: MYFORD 254 LATHE TECHNICAL QUESTION
05/03/2020 19:52:01

Hi Duncan ,

thank you will check my manual again .

Agree we are talking feed shaft only

.kind regards ray

05/03/2020 19:07:48

HI ,

Can anyone advise me please

On the Myford 254 lathe (any variant) Feed shaft from the multi speed gearbox to the saddle / apron.. When using Power feed or cross feed, as a safety measure, is the drive protected by a shear pin or adjustable slip type clutch?

On some Lathes such as the Myford 280, there is a user adjustable slip clutch built into the saddle. so it acts as a safety measure , or if you are using a bed stop will trip out when the saddle reaches the bed stop..

I have checked the manual and can't find a reference to it.

Appreciate the advice , thank hyou

Thread: MYFORD 254 RACK
27/11/2018 21:11:11

Hi I am working on a project and need a rack and pinion.

I have discovered that the bed rack on my Myford 254 appears to be 6 TPI and only a small cross section of approximately 0.3 inches wide and 0. 625 inches deep.

This would be an ideal size for my project.

Enclosed is a photo of a similar rack off a Myford super 7.

Can anyone suggest a supplier for one of these racks please, or indeed one off a Myford 254, or anyone breaking a 254.

Thank you

The motor has 9 wires. ( see plan sketch ) Cables are named

and W1, W2 , W5.

I have a standard 3 phase , 3 cable / live supply I.E. No neutral.

I am trying to wire it for standard 440 Volts. not 220 volts

any suggestions on which wires should be joined

Thread: Magnetic or optical scales for DRO
16/02/2018 00:16:27

HI CHAPS

I have 2 sets of DRO with magnetic pickup from EMS which I fitted 5 years ago. One is 3 axis fitted to a mill and the other to a lathe. the magnetic strips are VERY easy to cut to length. I even fitted a bit of magnetic tape onto the down spindle sleeve on the mill. They are very resistant swarf and coolant . They have worked faultlessly on every occasion. I have just ordered a third unit for another lathe. Good product, good service, very helpful and extremely knowledgable. EMS Without doubt.
