Thread: Fake Mitutoyo indicator on Ebay |

I'd thought that eBay had changed the rules on feedback a while ago to the effect that feedback couldn't be subsequently changed. Not true? |

Thread: Anaerobic adhesive question |

I suspect the source was a comparative assessment of the different ways in which a component could be quickly retained on a simple shaft without keys, splines et al without risking misalignment by tilting. I'm pretty sure it also covered things like tolerance rings and conventional adhesives like epoxies.
I've always undercut the shaft when using epoxy. Without that, I don't think you could get sufficient bond-line at all, for any sensible shaft fit. |
24/04/2020 18:35:10 |
Don't forget that you may be able to undercut the shaft along part of it's length by a few thou (or whatever) to give you any gap that you need while maintaining its fit where it's needed. |

Given the almost overwhelming UK-centricity of this site, I think it's a little obvious. As for profiles ... topic done to death already. |

Hi Robert Perhaps you could fill in your profile then we would know which side of which pond you live. Russell
Probably on this side at a guess.

Hopper, You really think that the fact that it should be obvious to anyone with any experience (what about those without, perhaps younger people?) justifies not bringing to eBay's attention a deliberate attempt to deceive? If the false description doesn't do it, look at the eBay picture close up and see the deliberate fake up. |
23/04/2020 16:50:38 |
If you copy the picture from the eBay ad into a half-decent graphics program where you can enlarge it , it looks a lot more like "Mitutoyo" than "Mitetoyo". |
Thread: Lawn weed and feed. How much is 35g? |
23/04/2020 01:59:55 |
Why complicate it? Paul Rhodes above has the best idea. just calculate what proportion of the bag is need for your lawn and spread that. (It ain't critical - you can eyeball that much). |

Thread: Oil at $10 a barrel... or less |

Around here (Southern Ontario) the gasoline prices dropped (from ~$1.20 / litre) to $0.65 -0.75 some weeks ago. It's now rising again (perhaps 0.75 - 0.85 / litre). This at a time when the Globe and Mail is reporting that the price of crude from the producers has gone negative (i.e. it's piling up and they are paying people to take it away). |

Ah, I see. That old adjective "ironic" - always miss that. My apologies, Colin ... it wasn't obvious to me. Edited By Bandersnatch on 21/04/2020 22:59:32 |

If I download a pdf I am fairly sure Adobe has the wherewithal to stamp my copy so if I start selling them off down the virtual pub you can get me bang to rights.
.... yet would it be economically viable to do so? What I think ought to be possible - probably need Adobe to do it - is to have a pdf that will "lock" itself to the machine that it is downloaded to and refuse to open on any other. Hey, computers can do anything with the right programming can't they? |
Thread: Manual control of CNC |

Posted by Barrie Lever on 20/04/2020 10:05:47:
....machining in a manual manner but by either holding down a button, key or turning an MPG is not an intuitive way to machine and has no tactile feedback as to what is happening at the coal face. There is a lot going on the human loop of vision, feel and sound when doing a small machining job. I would say the only issue with the manual/CNC combination is the drag that can be felt driving the stepper motor back through the belt.
I've never gone the CNC route but I have had a stepper motor connected to the leadscrew for other purposes and the (lumpy) drag from the stepper when manually feeding was very noticeable and pretty much killed any "tactile feedback". I certainly didn't like it. Moreover, at the time there was concern in some quarters (refuted in others - this is the internet after all) that back-driving the stepper while it's still connected to its driving electronics is a bad thing to do because of generated voltages. Dunno personally - bit beyond my pay grade. |
Thread: F1 Simulation |
20/04/2020 01:02:54 |
They (F1.com) ran a Chinese GP simulation today with thje following driver lineup: Mercedes: Stoffel Vandoorne and Esteban Gutierrez I didn't watch this live (it would have cost me money). It'll be on youtube in due course. There's talk of the leading drivers (Hamilton, Vettel, Verstappen) etc joining in which will be interesting to see if the the sim reflects driver/car performance on a live track. |
Thread: Manual control of CNC |

Not something I have any serious experience with but surely it's possible to do "manual" control using gcode segments? That is, drive, say, the x-axis at such and such a speed until terminated. etc It should be possible to compose a whole toolbox of gcode segments for manual use. In fact I'd be a bit surprised if someone hasn't already done that .... a simple control panel with manual commands. Or am I all wet? |

After considering all the options I've decided to stick to the drawings and go with unc.
When I saw this, I was just about to post to the effect that to me it would be a no-brainer. A sufficient subset of the correct taps/dies is not really that expensive in the scheme of things and to me would totally outweigh the hassle involved in switching threads. Different strokes for different folks of course. (it also helps if you are on this side of the pond where UNC/F is ubiquitous |

Has anyone seen any of the Formula-1 Virtual GPs such as this. This is absolutely mind-numbing to me - I had no idea the simulations were this good these days. Especially when, as i understand it, the drivers are all sitting in their own homes, not at some central location. |
