Thread: Who can make these Gear Cogs>?
19/02/2013 13:22:37

Hi Ian

The posters who have had their text removed know who they are and why. One was the offender and the other was a reply, which, whilst perfectly valid, would cease to make sense once the offening post had been removed. The continuity of the thread has been preserved by removing them.

In most cases, yes, I would just edit out unacceptable language, etc. When a post is removed completely the poster is informed and the reasons given.

Please bear in mind that this forum can not be moderated 24/7. Therefore, continuity will be compromised at times.

Please may I enquire as to what you considered a 'ridiculous situation'? as I feel it is open to interpretation, and I would like to know I have come to the right conclusion.

Ian

Hi Ian

The fact that earlier in the day David had replied to a post that nobody else was able to see, causing subsequent readers to be perplexed.

FYI, anyone posting for the first time has to be 'pre-moderated' - in other words the initial post has to be read by one of the moderators before it is allowed to become public. (Apologies if you already understand this. I repeat it mainly for those who don't realise this is the case.)

Hi There

I can see the post as a moderator.

As I no longer work directly for MyTimeMedia I try to leave any moderating duties to the employed web editor (Diane). I don't want to be seen as interfering.

regards David

David

As you have retained admin rights, despite not being employed, please feel free to approve first posts. The above was quite obviously a ridiculous situation.

Thread: Emma Victoria

The author, Henry Wood, is very much alive and well and is a very pleasant and helpful fellow (a Lancastrian, of course, so he would be!) but he is not on the forum.

If you would like to PM or, preferably, email me with the specific problem I can put it to Henry and aks whether he wants to put a correction in the next text.

Thread: Model Engineer's New Editor
03/02/2013 23:56:20

Just a very brief note from me to say a heart felt thank you to all who have taken the trouble to post messages of good wishes as I take on the role of Editor of Model Engineer. I have kept a low profile (as is my wont) on the other threads but be assured I read them all and appreciate each and every one. Thank you also to the many who have sent me emails and phoned me. It has all been very heartening. Some of you have high hopes and some have, dare I say, high expectations. Indeed, most of you - with the odd exception - seem to believe I might make a decent job of it.

Feel free to contact me any time with ideas and suggestions. Think of the editorial office door as being ever ajar and don't be afraid to pop your head round and shout at me. To my mind, it is your magazine; I am simply here to look after it for a while. So here goes...

Thread: Injectors v pumps
23/01/2013 01:14:37

Back to injectors/pumps

On the track - injectors every time. Preferably two, high and low pressure. Whereas a pump is purely mechanical, injectors work by magic, as we all know.

In the Sentinel in the road ... well, both. 'Pump on' for the long downhills and injector for when standing at signals or parked outside the pub. However, a traction engine on the road... usually pump as nothing ever happens very fast (or it doesn't on the one I know best). Injector for when parked outside the pub.

Thread: An announcement from the Editor of Model Engineer.

"Lang may your lumb reek"

Well, I ve just lit up as it's rather driecht here today.

Many thanks for all the good wishes.

David will certainly be a hard act to follow, that's for sure.
I was offered this post unexpectedly (it is good to know that someone, somewhere, has faith in my abilities) and all I can do is try my best. Now I am to take over the editorship I will need the help, guidance and advice of readers and acquaintances on this forum. Please think of the Editorial office as having an ever open door; don't be afraid to pop your head round and shout at me. Model Engineer is your magazine - I am just taking care of it for a while.

I am not an engineer, as you know, but I have had a lifelong appreication of model engineering and model making in all its many and varied guises. I am please to say, therfore, that Stewart Hart, well known to many of you, has agreed to provide me with technical and proof reading assistance. I have always admired Stewart's work and delight in his eye for the unusual.

The well-known 'Woolfie', regular poster on here, is also going to be involved in moderating the forum and, in due course, updating the website content, hopefully improving and expanding it.

So - a bit of change to come, perhpas. Do drop me a line any time.

Thread: Black hole
03/01/2013 21:17:32

A talented model engineer friend of ours has always lived by the rule: if you don't find it in the first ten seconds you make another one. He isn't a wealthy chap - but he's turned out a lot of models! Must be something in it...

Thanks Michael. Glad you're happy!!
I know it's on another thread but I thought if I start a new one there's more chance everyone will see it.
