Thread: Metal fatigue and clock making

Dear All
Many thanks for your responses. For my next attempt I shall partly saw through bar then heat to red and then bend. If that fails I shall dovetail cut and join.
Cheers

I'm making a John Wilding 16th century style clock which requires a frame from 1/8" x 1" ms bar.  The frame requires right angle bends in the plane of the steel bar. I have tried steel bar from two suppliers and both bars snapped at some point. The method in the handbook says:

"A saw cut is made to a depth of about three quarters of the thickness of the strip. The cut is now closed up by bending the strip ... A second saw cut is now made in the same position removing the metal which has been pinched together ...the cut is closed up by bending ... and the process is repeated until a right angle has been formed."

On each occasion the bar has snapped at the joint before completion. What to do?

Many thanks in anticipation

Thread: Another 'What Mill' Question
12/09/2010 12:11:02
Warco mini Mill/drill machine
I used a 10mm bolt to replace the drawbar and gave the head a whack with a 1lb hammer and out came the tapered spindle. I've now fitted the milling head and look forward to having a go.
Cheers

Warco mini mill/drill - stuck taper
I would like to thank all those who sent useful tips. They worked and I can now get on with my milling. I've had this problem for some weeks now - if only I had posted my call for help earlier. Thanks so much

Warco mini mill/drill
I bought this machine and have been pleased how it can accurately drill.
However, I also bought a milling head from Warco and wish to fit it to the machine.
I've followed the instructions supplied with the unit but cannot budge the tapered spindle that needs to be removed in order to fit the mill head.
I've used a plastic hammer to try and tap the spindle out but to no avail.
Can any one advise what I need to do
Thanks
