If you visit a decent electrical distributor , you should be able to buy a two-pack self-setting hard rubber compound that would do that job perfectly. |
Thread: Lest we forget |

The question I would like to ask, to all of those who sacrificed their lives for our 'today' , is this. For what we are today , would you do it again ? |

Remember it well , we used to tell the relatives we were living in Cabbagewater , they only came once and understood why the name ! |

Ah, long gone happy days , all the sons learned to swim at Street and I learned how to eat meatless streaky bacon and tinned tomatoes every morning in a TNPG Nissen hut.

Fire hazard ? Plastic pipe would fail and over pressure would be relieved by safety valve. |

BUT BD got Bridgwater right , not many know that. |

So far behind schedule I hear they are employing 1700 'extra' people to speed things up. 1700 x £50,000 = £85,000,000/p.a. And we need at least another six like this to replace those to be taken out of service soon. |

That is very good. Just be aware though , that over time , water will get to contain more and more rust and perhaps block the ' overhead' route. A direct blowdown now and then , just to check, is fine. |
Thread: Burnerd Chuck Jaws |

I'm guessing they broke when the chuck was holding stuff at near maximum diameter ? |
Thread: Compressors for spray guns |

With your large compressor , just make sure the air is 'dry' before starting to spray !

Thread: 1940s |

As I'm sure many on this forum experienced, until the 'powers that be' , were given the 'one off' present of unlimited oil+gas revenues to squander in the 1970's , we all worked in industries that were starved of investment and still running with 'pre-war' equipment that needed every replacement part to be made in-house. Pipes were rotated top to bottom , boiler tubes plugged, 'waste' did not exist. Once the oil/gas money started to flow , we died. |
Thread: A Welding Problem - Steel Type? |

Zinc and welding , no, no , no. I think that Zinc is 'alloyed' below the surface you believe to be clean. |

Or , as my old woodwork teacher used to say , " Engineers have to work to within ' a thou ', carpenters have to be exact." |
Thread: ' Smartmeters' |
22/05/2021 12:34:57 |
I 'get' the method now , thank you. Combine that with a 'triac' plus comms device to switch it 'off' ,' or similar , and you remotely have the means to control the consumers supply. Nice. Glad I wrote , I don't want my meter' replaced. |

I am pre-solid state so can someone please enlighten me how these work ? A 'computation' of volts x amps x power factor via a disc driven by a magnetic field , je comprend. Via 'solid state' , I do not. No details of 'how' can be found on the internet. I presume they are 'solid state' so that they can be turned off by 5G control, as and when required ? |
Thread: Hydrogen home heating |
18/05/2021 20:15:57 |
Don't worry, leave it to SAGE and the politicians , they'll sort it , like they have Covid. |
18/05/2021 14:49:17 |
If the hydrogen is derived from the constituent parts of water then no, all should be in equilibrium. But, if derived by stripping it from a hydrocarbon somehow , then yes, we will all be gasping for 'air'.,like now. |
