I'm subscribed to most of those mentioned; but my top 3 to date are Doubleboost, Joe Pieczinsky, Ade's workshop, not necessarily in that order.

I guess you would not catch it even in this super fast Audi.

800+mph

Where I live psychotic Audis do 800mph as standard

Same where I live.. & that inc. BMW's, Mercs,Volvo SUV's, Lexus, & not counting the motor bikes that go whining past my bungalow.

Cycling and swimming are both good because they don't jar your joints.

Plus any exercise is better than no exercise.

I do have an excercise bike that is now pressed into service in conjunction with the other excercises; as you say 'owt is better than nowt' tha' nah's

Various adhesives e.g. Loctite 603/638, super glue, JB weld, 2 part epoxy resin ( different brands ) usual disclaimer applies, various lengths of stock materials silver steel mild steel cast iron, Aluminium / brass round & hex etc etc. plus a lot more 'adviseables/ good to have'... How long is a piece of string I guess, &, I can still see the floor!

Hi Ron, think along the lines of.. steam moves along the pipe from the boiler, then goes UP against the bottom of the disc, which lifts & allows steam over the top of the weir & into the discharge line of the valve... think 'along - up & over - along'. I know from my time repairing valves that industrial valves have an arrow to show the flow direction cast in the body & so which way the valve should be fitted. Google 'globe valve diagrams'.

Try a thin piece of Teflon sheeting, cut a hole close to the diameter of the spindle & the OD of the bearing + plus an extra 10 mm, as near as, split the 'washer' down from the top & fit over the spindle glued in place with hot glue gun or even some silicon sealant, niceley sealed up , job done.

Same here; Having arthritis in my spine for some time now & having recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes ( just gone over threshhold of 50 mmol/mol... don't ask.. ?? ) I now have the task of increasing my excercise level & dietry management. I now try to achieve 1000 + steps per day by walking around the estate, so far I'm managing 2000 steps but beyond that my arthritis starts to tell me 'that's your lot mate'!. So far a mile a day isn't bad considering, like many others, between a rock & a hard place or, if you want, a catch 22 situation. Keep well all.

... On the other hand, I have a plumbers, eclipse pipe cutting wheel, that cuts 54mm OK & that cuts copper pipe nice & square. Can you borrow one?...

+1 ... the easiest solution. I have a smaller version that will do up to 22mm copper pipe bought from local M/Mart; usual disclaimer.

Thread: Recommendations for a good/decent mobile hoist?
13/11/2020 14:05:52

When I converted my garage to a 'Hobby shop' I'd bought a 1 ton engine hoist from M/Mart ( usual disclaimer applies ) in preparation for lifting lathe & mill, well worth it, trouble is I've now filled the 'Hobby shop' & having stacked the hoist in a corner I doubt if I could get it out now, & if I could I doubt I would have the room to manouvre it for use should I move... conundrum ?

I have the Arc set and they work fine. You do stand a better chance ( but no certainty) of getting a good fit for a cap screw.

+1 Me too. Bought when 'on offer 'Have used them a couple of times & found them to be fine.

Thread: ML7 toolpost - Turns Under Load
11/11/2020 16:30:39

I have a Bison clone of the Dickson type tool post, this has an anti-rotation pin facility where the compound slide has a mating hole drilled in to approx' 5 mm depth, certainly prevents rotation chances. I have also turned the tool holder 90* & drilled another matching hole directly opposite for the same effect if I have two tools set up .. rarely.

... 1 - use the black camera icon, or if you want to open and search your albums, do this in a new tab.

2 - I guess you mean Edge the bundled browser in Win 10? This is now Chrome under the hood. You could try internet explorer mode for this website which bypasses some of Edge's 'cleverness' which breaks more than a few websites. Alternatively, I know Firefox displays the site without issues.

Thanks Neil; twigged #1... #2 will give that a look at, thanks again.

Thread: Warco experience - WM18B
11/11/2020 15:49:06

... ChrisH mentioned the Grizzly manuals. The trick seems to be to look through their product range for something that looks a bit like the machine of interest, the manual can then be downloaded from the product page...

Look for the Grizzly 0704... It's as near as matters to your machine, also the WM16. Don't concern yourself over accuracy at the moment, get used to it, it will need a few tweaks to get it running good & safe. I have a WM 16 mill & found the similar probs with the wiring, the Emer. stop was loose, having a look in the back I found a spring clip on the bottom of the enclosure & deducted that this was to fit into a slot on the Emer. button assembly which then locked it into position.. has been secure since. I had a look around & all the rest looked ok, mind you I'm not aux fait with electric control systems so didn't go poking around with a screw driver, but so far every thing works as it should.

I removed the plastic guard as it was as much use as the proverbial choc' fire guard, making sure the micro switch was in the closed position, & made a full length enclosure guard out of acrylic, much better access. BE CAREFUL! don't go poking around in control circuits as there are capcitors in there & are waiting to give you a belt!. Those who are really up on electrickery always say you can short out capictors to discharge stored voltage... that is if you can recognise them; I aint one of them !

I also have a WM 250V-F lathe, & had a few tweaks to do to it as well; Change wheel guard micro switch tab was bent & for the life of me I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start, after checking all the fuses & listening to hear the chuck guard micro switch clicking on & off, making sure that the Emer.stop button had not locked in I finally found it right at the bottom at the back, a quick twist & hey presto! machine worked. I made a few mods on mine over the past 7 years & so far all is well, a nice machine now.. fingers & toe's x'd.. thinking wink

Enjoy

Thread: Plans for updating the archaic forum?
11/11/2020 11:20:07

I find the forum works quite well as is; the only gripe I have is, as I've posted previously, was, 1 ) the frustrating habit of when I'm replying to a post & have to go to my albums to select a jpeg to insert into the post or refer to a link; the dialogue has disappeared. I am now in the habit of either copying & pasting to a word page or, as I have just found out, pasted to 'clipboard' then having to re-paste it back, surely within the format there should be a means of keeping the dialogue within the box if you have to leave the forum ?.

2 ) The awful scrabble of the title box & thread headline being a jumbled mess. I do not have any ad blockers on & am on Win 10, not Chrome, which has the facility to turn off/on ad blockers. I can only deduct there is something to do with ads interspersed in the headline format ?.

Motor / belt resonance ?. as you are that close I wouldn't look for perfection, If I was machining something that far out from the chuck I would definately be supporting with live centre in tail stock. IIRC usual recommendation for stick out from chuck, unsupported, is 2 - 3 x stock diameter max.
