Thread: Darjeeling Saddle Tank 0-4-0 New series starting in ME 4378
15/11/2011 15:23:00
hi ralph
if i where you i would buy the plans from blackgates as there are many errors in the model engineer
i would also recomend tthat you buy as many ready cut parts as you can as i have been on mine now since the start of the articles in model engineer and am only just stating to asemble the motion
other than that follow rays instructions and you will not go far wrong

Thread: Darjeeling Hole sizes (to Tap or not to Tap)
29/09/2011 17:56:16
hi steambuff
when you make the brakets for the tank check the size on both drawings (frames and tank)
wait untill you have to start tapping 12ba threads they are even smaller(con rods coupling rods etc.)

hi dusty &steambuff
i made my cylnders from 80mm square cast iron bought from collage engineering supplies at the harogate show and followed the instructions in model engineer using an angle plate and home made taper wedges 5 ,12, 15, 19 degrees and it worked out well steve has machined the cylnders from castings i'll ask him to let you know how he done it
steambuff i am located in the north west not in sunny suffolk but i wish you well with your project

hi colin
you should start now save your pennies and buy as many parts that are profiled laser or jet cut it speed the build up and having seen some off the parts available it makes me want to throw mine in the bin and start again i have been building mine since the series began last may (2010) spending about 4 hours a day 4or 5 days a week in constuction of it and i still do not have a rolling chassis
the locos where all on display at harogate this year and a splendid show they made

dear steambuff
i would stongly recomend that you get hold of all the relvent copies of model engineer as this would assist you in the constuction if you follow raymonds instructions you will not go far wrong i have nealy compleated the cylinders this morning and i am not far off a running chassis (see recent model engineer ) if you ned any help please feel free to get in touch
