Or if you have a lathe with a hollow headstock mandrel purchase a 7/32 BSF die from Tracy Tools and cannibalise a die holder to enable it to fit in a three jaw chuck, support in a suitable bush drilled in situ in the tool post. Lock in tailstock chuck to prevent rotation with tailstock unlocked and free to slide. The die plus cannibalised die holder is of little cost and subject to between centres distance enables you to produce whatever length and quantity you require. Go steady if you drive the mandrel other than by hand!! Robert Butler |

Thread: Milling machine enclosure |
26/01/2021 18:43:37 |
I have used a redundant 25 litre water carrier cut to fit and wedged into the none "T" slot - slot!!? at the rear of the table which folds round into the two troughs at the end. This catches swarf at the rear and ends - I use end mills!!? and I find little swarf exits at the front. It would not require any major repositioning if swarf from the front became an issue. Clear up mainly confined to the table. The enclosure benefits from easy removal and deflected out of the way without damage if the quill/column catches whilst concentrating on the job in hand. I wasn't aware unsilenced air rifles were capable of more than hearing damage! The OP should be aware there may well be Police Officers subscribing to this forum and if so I would expect them to make enquiries as to the identity of the OP and arrange for his local force to confiscate any weapons and revoke any Firearms or Shotgun permissions whether necessary for the type of weapon described or otherwise. Weapons should not be in the possession of abusive and volatile individuals. The OP has nothing to learn from any advice given on this site, he has been unlucky with every machine he has purchased. I hope all those firms supplying machines subscribe and take note to avoid supplying the OP it can only end in tears. If I was the dog poo referred to earlier I would be anxious to extricate myself from the shoe. It is time the OP was invited to leave this forum . Robert Butler

Thread: Myyford gearbox strip down |
16/01/2021 19:16:15 |
For the avoidance of doubt - strip the gearbox completely - not a difficult task with it on the bench. Robert Butler |

Many years ago I retrofitted a QCG to my ML7, now sold. I stripped the gearbox completely down to the last nut and bolt and cannot recall any difficulty in dismantling and rebuilding. The main shaft may have to come out first which will give access to the shaft where the selector is located and the shaft should then slide out unless I am missing something? I think the problem is trying to partially dismantle the gearbox. I don't recall the job taking very long either, it took longer to clean the parts and dry them than the strip and rebuild. Thread: Look out, here comes a woodturner |

Jason B. Well said, I make and repair items in wood, metal and man made materials by machining, hand work and fabrication. I am unlikely to produce any models as I do not have the patience. Given the varied interests of subscribers which includes car and motorcycle restoration I see no harm including anything that can be made in a Workshop. Robert Butler |
Thread: Clarke CL500M longitudinal feed screw |
03/01/2021 17:30:54 |
I have absolutely no experience of these machines but understand the principle of the backlash adjustment. I would have thought any adjustment screw would be fitted from the exposed end shown in the image as the extra thickness provides more support to the adjusting screw. The narrower (thinner section) is also more likely to be deflected to achieve the adjustment required. Is the screw missing, or if of allen screw configuration is it just that the hex is smaller/larger than anticipated - or even a slot head screw? Mike, we have rather hijacked the original posting, was the garage opposite the bus park (station would be too elaborate) if so there was a glass fronted "shop" which i can recall displaying cars? Around this time although still living at Baxterley I was working full time in Tamworth and under the spell of a number of girlfriends and my attention was elsewhere. Is it perhaps better to PM rather than completely sidetrack this thread. Robert Butler

OR, Born, brought up and lived on a small farm at Baxterley for 35 years. Now live at Edingale just outside Tamworth. I know Peter & Stan Savage, Peter particularly noted for his Velocette's regrettably not enjoying the best of health. Mainly a customer of Zak's and D F King Motorcycles who were also clients of mine for many years - Gerald Rowley is still around and I saw Dave King just before Christmas. He always needs a box of Black Powder cartridges which I load. Still interested in Motorcycles but haven't had one for 30 years now and at 68 perhaps a bit late. Robert |

Slightly off topic but relevant nonetheless. Forum members may recall I posted in October "Issue 298 Gremlins" where I had received a Mongrel Copy with missing and duplicated pages. Neil & Beth responded positively and on Wednesday I received a replacement although I had already purchased one. It is clear the system works and a little patience is required. Thank you Neil & Beth. Gavin, thank you for keeping "this civil"!!?? With respect I am unsure how to interpret "Don't be a complete Plum" if this intended to be a civil response. In an earlier and subsequent post you eluded to your tireless efforts in keeping the rail network running throughout the Pandemic, the inference being the network was a shining example of how to cope in adversity and MTM's performance by comparison was very poor. With customer surveys ratings of 83% or 84% quoted as "bad" I think the comparison needed to be made in the interests of fairness. You clearly expect MTM to provide standards of service the rail network is totally unable to deliver, whether it is the matter in hand or otherwise. I would suggest the issues you have raised lie with the distribution network whether Courier or Post Office, the public have turned to online purchases in a big way and distribution services are stretched to the limit and beyond. Staff illness, Covid19 isolation looking after relatives and children unable to attend school all adds to the problem and it is ridiculous to expect everything to run like clockwork. I understand this topic "has got to you" but you have aired your views and now is the time to regain your sense of proportion, it is only a late magazine delivery and ultimately will not affect your life one way or another. time to move on. Gavin, I have Googled (as you do) Rail Customer Service reviews - Trustpilot - National Rail where 83% of customers describe the service as bad and Scotrail 84% of customers describe the service as bad. It occurs to me that those inhabiting fragile structures should not play with solid projectiles. Robert Butler |
