Thread: Weiler Matador owners. Suggestions needed
15/09/2018 18:47:37

Hello

I have German Weiler Matador lathe. It had small gearbox fault, some small screws loosened, dropped and jammed gearbox lever. I had to remove gearbox but I did not need to break up the gearbox. Before I could remove gearbox I have to remove covers, Apron and lead screw. I also had to remove gears, pulley and belt seen on following Youtube video.

Now I am not sure if I managed to assemble lathe correctly again. Lever I use on video (lower and left one) should change transmission between belt and gears. But does it work as it should?

Are there any Weiler Matador owners? Does Your Matador act like mine?

Thread: Question about clock dial
02/10/2017 18:05:05

Perhaps I should say that I am trying to make my clock work again. instead of restoring it. I agree that it would be better to store oririnal dial and make a new one. Propably that would be much faster to make new dial than repaint old. Either way, value of my clock is quite low.Someone from the past has already fixed it very badly If You look at following picture, you can see part of the pocket watch soldered to clock plate used as a bushing and pocket watch wheels used as a washers. I am quite sure that these are not original parts of the movement.

My clock has more square case than those pregnant belly clocks. I do not know if this case (or movement) is original or not.

Back to the original questtion. If everyone says that number above 12 is 60 I accept that, but in my opinion that number does not look like 60. If number is not 60, is the any reason for that?

Hello

I have old Swedish Mora grandfather clock I am going to restore. Clock Dial is painted on metal plate and in my opinion it is beyond restoring. I have to remove paint and repaint it. I am wondering why dial has number 59 (or perhaps 39) painted above 12 o´clock. Does someone knows why there is number 59/39 above 12 instead of number 60?

Thread: Cutting wood screw threads on the lathe
28/02/2013 16:52:28

If You are making models, do You need self made screws at all? Perhaps all You need to make is something that looks like screw head. Make brass pins with screw head and use commercial hidden screws to fasten parts together.

Thread: MEW, would less be more?
11/12/2011 20:28:11
Neil, Your offer is kind, and I will try to write an article. Some other MEW forum readers made a similar offer by personal message and I can't use all of them. At least, not with first article. But, if this first, not yet written article is a great success, I'll make an another one, and I will ask someone else to check it.

Thank You for encouragement. I will make a try.

When I opened this this discussion, one of my thoughts which I did not mention was about writing articles. I would like to write one to MEW, and I have taken photographs for that. But as You have notised, English is not my mother language. If I write an article, it would not need just some editing, it would need major rewriting by editor. I think Mr Clark's schelude is far too busy for that. Only If there were fewer MEWs and if Mr Clark has more time for one magazine...

First, I like to say that David Clark has made great job as a editor of Model Engineer's Workshop magazine.

However, there is one thing I personally don't like and I like to start discussion about that. When I startated my subscription a few years ago there were eight issues each year and weeks between two numbers were long. Later, number of issues were increased to ten and then twelve and thirteen, if I remember correctly.

In my opinion thirteen number per year is too much. I have another activities than just read MEW, I have to find to be in workshop also. Sometimes I have two or three issues I have not read yet. I know thats partly becouse english is not my mother language, and I am a little bit slow reader. But I also feel that nowadays magazine is not as interesting as it used to be. Sometimes I find myself thinking that are some articles just to fill those several pages? Some articles seems to be quite empty, I would say.

I know that reason for thirteen issues is schelude of ME and MEW is easier to maintain.
Week 1: ME
Week 2: MEW
Week 3: ME
Week:4: to be rest
then start again from week 1

But should there allways be a week 2? What if two or three times per year week 2 does not exist at all?
If there would be just 10 to 11 MEW issues each year, would they be thicker and better. Would Mr Clark find time and force make those numbers even better than they are now? Would Mr Clark find time to do something just for himself and his family? Would we all be more satisfied to MEW magazine?

Thread: A New Dividing Plate for my Dividing Head
08/07/2011 20:11:22
I noticed smiley and regret nuance of my post. Sorry.

127 (and 113) divisions would be useful but I can not find way to make new plate to make them. 25 holes is good advice.

English is not my mother language, as You perhaps has noticed. It's not always easy to me find right expressions. Perhaps I may try again.

Is there any practical difference between 16, 32, or 48 holes in my problem. Of course I can make calculations myself, but that takes time. Perhaps someone already have sensible opinion?

Hello

I have a Dividing head with 60:1 reduction worm and 3 plates with
13, 17, 22, 24, 45, 49
23, 29, 37, 43, 53
19, 28, 31, 41, 47, 59
holes.

The following divisions are possible: 2 through 60, 60 through 100 (except 63, 64, 81, 91, 99 and prime numbers) and 81 divisions between 100 and 360.

I need to cut wheel with 64 teeth, which I can not cut. No big deal because I can make an extra dividing plate with 16, 32 or 48 holes, and with that I can divide by 64.

I am too lazy to calculate is there any practical difference between 16, 32 or 48 holes and which one is best. Does someone have a opinion?

Also, when I make a new dividing plate, can You recommend any other number of holes to drill?

Thread: 5c collet holding capacity
04/07/2011 11:15:52
Thank You

Holding tolerance for 5C collets seems to be quite small and 5C to ER32 collet chuck sound a good advice.

That is what I have heard about, only be used to hold nominal size and ER collets are better in this way. But there is always some tolerance. So, if I have say a 19.0 mm, 19.5 mm and 20 mm 5C collets, is there gap between 19 - 20 mm they can not hold without losing consentricity or do I ruin my collet if I use 20 mm collet on 19.6 mm bar?

How about if I have just 19 mm and 20 mm collets,? Gap or ruin between 19 -20 mm?

Or 3 mm, 3.5 mm and 4 mm collets? Gap or ruin between 3-4 mm?

Hello

ER collet can hold bar +0 mm - (-1 mm) nominal capacity as far I know. What I do not know is holding capacity of 5c collet. Can someone tell me that.

Thread: Ruhla type 59 / Deckel table adjusting
13/05/2010 20:15:00
I thought that Thiel and Ruhla were Deckel copies, but I was wrong. That also explains why my Ruhla does not look exactly like Deckel...

My swivelling table alignment was out in horizontal plane. Something like 0.4 mm over the length of 400 mm. Today I broke table to the bits and made clean up. Now alignment is better, About 0.07 mm over 400 mm.
Not good but better.

Thank You. I just understood that I have just 2 bolts in tee slots. I have to make two more.

Hello

I have Ruhla type 59 universal milling machine which I believe is East-German Deckel FP3? copy.  It's table is not quite parallel to the axis but I have not find a way to align it. Can somebody give me instructions or hint how can I align the table?

Thank You. (and I Regret my bad English)
