Thread: Snowdon Mountain Railway |

This one seems to be a bit different, the Budapest Cog-wheel Railway, is a rack railway in the Buda hills part of Budapest. It connects a lower terminus at Városmajor and with an upper terminus at Széchenyihegy. The line is integrated into the city's public transport system as tram line number 60, is 3.7 kilometres (2.3 mi) in length, rising some 264m. Coming into the station. The rack The drive system consist of a single rack and wheel. It uses the Strub cog-wheel system. (the link is to Wikipedia) The wheel & rack display seems to have a slightly different construction to that actually fitted between the rails (might be an earlier version) John Edited By Journeyman on 30/11/2022 18:56:47 |

Detailed instructions on doing a factory reset can be found here *** Samsung Factory Reset *** John |

Odin is not the most user friendly of programs. Not recommended unless you know what you are doing. It is quite possible and relatively easy to 'brick' the tablet without trying, assuming it is not already in this state. You are playing with things not usually encountered by tablet or phone users. This is deep into nerd land. I have done it to install custom ROMs on phones but would not recommend it to a basic user. John |

Harry, I too have a Samsung Android tablet. It regularly updates itself, downloads the data when connected to wifi and not doing anything else and then installs the update. Looking at the other part of the message on the screen it would seem that it has crashed during an update. The download could have been corrupted (it should check that) or it has just missed a beat if the cable was pulled at the wrong moment. The long press on the Volume down and power button at the same time should (in theory) induce a factory reset mode. There are other combinations of button presses that do similar depends slightly on which model. It is possible to reload the factory software but it requires extra software and a lot of patience John |

Not quite dead this error is typically encountered when trying to flash a non stock ROM onto a device. Unless you are into DIY custom ROMs I doubt there is a simple fix. You could try just pressing Volume Down and Power button, until the tablet restarts this could take several seconds of holding definitely more than 7 seconds. If that doesn't nudge it back to life it's to the Samsung shop I'm afraid. John Edited By Journeyman on 25/10/2022 16:01:04 |
Thread: Soldering iron |
25/10/2022 15:15:43 |
Mine is not the same model but the various 'ends' are fitted separately:- Torch on left next is the soldering head with bit then torch and the bit at the top slides onto the torch and makes a mini hot air gun. When lit the soldering iron looks like this. Looking at yours I am guessing that the 'corrugated' bit of the nozzle comes either unscrews or pulls off before the soldering attachment is screwed onto the black collar Hope that helps a bit. I use these: LEDlite, 5ft 24w LED Fluorescent Tube, White
Lumens: 3200lm, Colour: White 3500k. Bought mine from TLC on line, have 6 in the workshop. You can retrofit them in old style ballast fluorescent fittings using a supplied pass-through starter. To use in electronic ballast units will require a re-wire to take the feed just to one end of the tube. They are more robust (plastic) than fluorescent tubes so can be used without covers/shades. You can even use the tubes without a fitting and supply power just to one end with a suitable connector.
I made 3D printed end covers and brackets for my tubes and connected with a suitable choc-block.

Thread: Headstock alignment |
10/10/2022 18:33:27 |
Before moving the headstock it may be wise to first eliminate any other possible cause of run-out.
Moving the headstock should be a last resort this is 'Here Be Dragons' territory. Move slowly and carefully, eliminate all other possibilities before unbolting the headstock. John Edited By Journeyman on 10/10/2022 18:34:31 |

There are of course alternative ways of making the screw captive, not better, just different. Anyone contemplating making toolmakers clamps my *** webpage *** might help. Harold Hall's website has plenty of useful information on toolmakers clamps complete with drawings, suggested sizes and different styles, well worth a look: Workshop Projects - Toolmakers Clamps. Thread: What Did you do Today 2022 |
27/09/2022 15:07:47 |
Posted by Robin on 27/09/2022 11:49:47:
Today I tried inserting an ISO30 taper into the horizontal spindle of my Warco HV mill for the first time and found it did not fit. It's all wobbly. Angst. Tried another taper, an ER collet chuck. Still no good. Ran around the workshop shouting, "Don't panic" until I was quite breathless. Eventually tried removing the 2 driving dogs from the spindle nose and in it goes, all snuggle bunnies the way it should. Why do I do this to myself? Be aware with ISO 30 taper tooling that there are several different variations on a theme. They all use the same angle and power is transmitted by the drive dogs, not the taper. There are however different arrangements of the drive dogs and different draw bar threads. viz-
Care needs to be taken when purchasing particularly is 2nd hand from relatively unknown sources. John |
