Looks like a phototransistor in a TO-18 case. The lower rim of the case is visible, markings would normally be on the side of the can so it is probably an unmarked device.

I have been considering buying a bandsaw for some time. After a near miss last week with a slitting disk I took the plunge and bought a Femi from Stakesy's. It cut straight without adjustment, wish I had bought one earlier. Whatever you go for check the price and availability of replacement blades.

I bought a 'Mitutoyo' micrometer on fakebay last year. It was quite convincing until I removed the screw, got a refund from the seller who claimed they had been duped. I doubt that.

Genuine Moore and Wrong:

Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi and IMO all state that a motor should only be disconnected from the drive output when the motor is at a standstill. That is NOT an exhaustive list, just a 10 minute search. If you need to switch the drive output, read the manual or contact the manufacturer.

+1 Andrew, it is disconnection that is the problem.

I have had success holding short lengths in ER collets by putting a short slug of same sized material in the other end of the collet.

I find the blocks very useful. Quick to put a square or hex on a round bar and a simple way to hold a piece of round bar very securely without bruising the surface. Secure the bar in the block and then put the block in the vice or clamp to milling table.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, small chuck keys make adjusting the four jaw chuck easier and faster. I made two of these:

I have had many real bargains from Ebay including my Myford, Senior mill and most of my tooling. Ten years ago it was easy, today is a different story.

Hello Andy, I have a Thermal Arc 175TE. Before that I had a lift start tig and had no end of problems with tungsten contamination on lifting the electrode. It may have been my fault due to inexperience but HF start solved my problems.

My thoughts too.

If I invested in some my wife would think I was a bitstupid.
