Thread: Myford C7 Capstan |
08/10/2011 18:07:29 |
Hi David, I too was enviously watching the C7, well done on Your purchase, might I ask what You are going to use her for ? I have found the Myford cross slide capstan turret invaluable in My small engineering business, but as I use the ML7 for general turning as well it's a bit of a pain to keep swapping ! I also use the hand wheel cut off slide and the lever collet chuck with the capstan fitting. Cheers now, Mick. |
Thread: What happened to the Myford sale thread? |
23/07/2011 10:47:19 |
Following the information in this thread that 'myfordlathes' were selling off the stock lathes on ebay and that no information was displayed regarding business details ,someone has obviously questioned ebay about this as today the info is displayed;-
Company- Asset Preservation Partnership LLP.
Company Registration Number-OC328694.
VAT Reg No-GB916830713.
With regard to the lathes advertised as 'New' then the same buyer protection rights have to be given by the vendor as any other seller of new goods, so in the event of a problem occouring to the lathe after being sold then it will still be up to the vendor to put it right, replace ,or refund, the law is quite straightforward on this, Your rights as a buyer are protected even on ebay !! Were I looking to replace My aging ML7 at present ( which I am not1) then I am sure I would have no hesitation in looking to obtain a replacement big bore 7 from this source, but not at the advertised prices ! Most of the 'New' lathes are on buy it now or open to offer, so the opportunity is there to grab a bargain ,probably for the very last time, ( I did make an offer of £101 for a new S7 , but they rejected it !!!)
Cheers now, Mick.

Thread: ER25 Collet quality |
30/10/2010 14:48:42 |
I have a vertex set of er 25 collets and the collet holder with the myford nose fitting, around £100 the set from RDG, very good value, fairly accurate, use mine every day for the last 18months with no problems, i use the 8-9mm constantly for turning 8mm stainless 304 rod, putting on 50mm x 8mm x 1.5 thread on each end, collet still gripping truley after probably 2000 plus operations, well impressed!, Previously wore my Myford collet out after less than 100 op's, and my Myford lever operated 8mm collet out after 40 op's, and that bu**er was a Hardinge collet !! cheers ,mick. |
Thread: Myford ML7 Headstock bearings |
30/10/2010 14:38:16 |
You could fit the mk1 super7 headstock to the ml7 bed, same bed, but you would have to also fit the super 7 motorising bracket, countershaft and pulleys as well, better off buying a super7. You mention ptfe tape , Is Your problem that you are not throttling the oil control correctly, if you have to fast an oil feed, the oil will build up above the bottom of the sight glass lower edge and leak through the sight glass suround ! Being a total loss lubrication system it will always leak a bit around the bearing sides, but i reckon your main problem is giving it too much oil in the first place, a drop a minute max! cheers, mick. |

I would like to thank all the lads that replied to my question reguarding the mill head ,especialy Jim and Pierre, Thanks for the manual link Pierre, just wish I had taken more notice at school during French lessons!! Will have to buy the Rosetta Stone guide to French now as well as the mill head!!
Picked her up today, looks like a project for next winter, bits missing and studs sheared off all over the show,. (the mill head not Rosetta Stone !!) Oh Well---that ebay has a lot to answer for! |
Thread: Myford ML7 Tool Clamp Stud |
31/05/2010 18:06:57 |
Hi KWIL, My ML7 is the same age as Your's then!, Of course I have the utmost respect for Myfords, twas only in jest Sir, having said that £20 odd pounds for what is little more than a stud is a little steep !, on the plus side I use mine daily for my business and pleasure and have had to buy very little in the way of parts in the last 10 years, so i cannot grumble. Cheers, Mick (34G) |

The toolpost screw should just be a push fit into the compound slide top casting, the stud should also have a roll pin to locate it in position ,i usually add a bit of locktite stud lock just to help it stay in one place. As has been stated ,the 3 (or 4) screw holes are to locate the index ring for the indexing tool post, it should be easy enough to turn up a new stud if one is required. I have made a few in the past and to save on turning down a rake of metal it is easier to machine up , bore out , then part off a base ring, then machine a new stud up from the correct diameter, and silver solder into the base ring, a lot cheaper than Myfrauds original part !!.(probably last longer as well!!) Cheers, Mick (34G !) |
Thread: Hobbymat MD65 needs assistance to start |
30/05/2010 18:56:34 |
Hi Chaps, like Clive I have just aquired a Hobbymat BFE-65 milling head ( mill head ,upstand and flange fitting for rear of lathe ,only- not the lathe itself)
I am hoping to fit this to my aging ML7 at the rear of the bed or machine a bed mounting block ,as with the old Amolco miller. Would any of You kind souls know where I may get a copy of the manual and spares list for the BFE-65 please. I found a link on the web to a site that you could download a copy from, but that has since expired. Many thanks in anticipation, and well done lads for solving Clives problem.Cheers, Mick (34G!). |
