Thread: Stepper motor speed control connections |

Thanks for your constructive replies, the Myfordboy video is the one that I first saw, but the wiring between the components was not given. My mill uses a small geared dc motor at present as shown in Mike Weeblys site, but it is a small motor and can be a bit under powered. Motor length would not be a problem Joe, and thanks for the run through on torque etc, appreciated. It was just the connections shown in the video are not clear via the screen shots, and I wanted clarification.

Thanks for your suggestion Bazyle, I am not unaware of electronics, and want to use a readily available module with a rotary speed controler. I spent most of my working life in the electricity supply industry, and know the pitfalls of wrong connections, that is why after spending time researching the web and not finding the relevant details I asked for help, not sarcasm. |

Thinking of replacing the mill table feed on my Dore Westbury with a stepper motor fed using one of the Pwm speed control units from eBay etc. I am thinking in terms of a nema23 motor with a quimat 6600 driver with a direct connection to the feed screw. I see how the motor connects and sets up, but am not sure of the connections from the speed control module to the driver are made. Has anyone used this set up or knows how to connect it. Ian |

Got a cheap x y vice mounted to the base of my Fobco drill, use for 99% of my drilling jobs, easy enough to remove if a larger item is needed to be drilled. Easy to move co-ordinates too. Use the Dore Westbury mill if more than usual precision is required.

Hi Number 9 is a piece of electrical cable tray, originally used to support cables over voids etc, probably screwed to the workshop wall as a storage item for the saw table components. 10 is the oil gun |

Also used for wiping cable glands to pilcswa electrical cables and in the metal pot for soldering weak back ferrules to joint the cables. Fitting and cable were tinned and then built up with layers of plumbers metal using a torch, metal , pat with moleskin, you had to get it in the right order or you knew about it😩. Compression fittings used later for jointing |
Thread: Are Model Engineering Exhibitions The Same |

Having had my first taste of a model engineering club 58 years ago, and experiencing model engineers behaviour at shows for the last 40 years, I would not go near a club, but put up with exhibitions. Don’t think the behaviour is restricted to model engineers exclusively though, you only have to use public transport or frequent public spaces to appreciate the downturn in manners. Having said that there are still some old fashioned ladies and gentlemen on this site who give freely of there help, I think they know who they are and are appreciated. |

As it’s under guarantee I would suggest you don’t start playing with it, Warco have a 6 month on site option to use. Dismantling could void your warranty. |

Not having kids, I and my wife have paid, and are still paying for the needs of ourselves and others at home and around the world, wether or not we want to, I don’t think anything in this word is free, but I do think that it pays to have the best defence you can get. At 74 I am glad we have and have had world class arms industries to defend me, and the people who are willing to go out and use there products if needed. |

Where would we be without a defence industry, would it be best to just get rid of bae and hide? |

Sounds as though you have talked yourself into wanting a new lathe, so why not do it and save yourself some time? |

Reground the surface of my magnetic table by mounting the head of my quorn in the spindle of the mill and taking small cuts, came out ok. |

Like Michael g, I too have memories of the BSA painter doing the tank, fabulous skill. On a visit with the electricity board students association, first time most of us had seen a melon for lunch, guessing how to tackle it without looking a fool. Different world going from Leeds to Brum as a 16 year old apprentice. |

I use the cheapo brushes from Wilko, don’t shed hairs and just throw them away at the end of the job, cheaper than buying paint brush cleaner and a lot more convenient. |

How do you manage to get a clear enough sky to see anything? In my neck of the woods you are lucky to see any stars at all most nights due to cloud cover. Would love to be able to use a scope, but it would be a waste of time I think. Never saw the moon for the eclipse last week, and last night sat out saw only one star. |

Nice engine Jason, don’t know how you find time to fit all you do in to a day! Did you have any oil in the cups when you ran it? |

Storage heaters had to be fixed with fibre wall plugs, plastic ones have caused injury’s as they were known to have given way allowing the heaters to tip off the walls. |
