Thread: Small Milling problem |

Hi Whilst I agree that using filling buttons is a good way of forming round ends, I tend to use a linishing machine, this is a belt type of sander for use on metal. I know this will produce gasps and mention of abrasive dust affecting machines etc, but after spending 6 months in a ROF apprentice training shop 50 odd years ago with worn out files and old emery cloth, it taught me one thing, "if you can use a machine, do so" it's much easier. I have rounded hundreds of ends in 1/4 mild steel by putting a pin at right angles into a scrap peice of metal and clamping this at the required radius from the belt, than rotating against the belt. Works as a good metal remover and leaves a good polished surface. My grinding is done away from my covered up machines, followed by a good vacumming. |

Just a thought, why can't you use a smaller boring bar? You say that you can use a bar at 3/4 inch bore, so buy or make a smaller bar for a fraction of the cost of the options suggested. You will need smaller bars on a regular basis anyway. Ian |

Hi,
Drills can wear on the side of the flutes, if they have been used on hard materials or loaded to produce heat. You can sometimes see this by eye on the edges of the drill.
Gives the symptoms you describe.
I would try a new drill, as sharpening the cutting edge will not improve matters unless you grind down past the wear.

Hi
Sorry you have had problems, I started using Apple in 1995 and have never looked back.
I use imacs, ipod s, I phone and an ipad, paid for with my hard earned cash.
I can honestly say that I would not go back Windoze again.
People know I like computers and I am often asked for my advice on PC problems, never on Mac ones.
I did not start this line of correspondence, but it doe's make me mad when people who have not used Mac's denigrate them.

Hi Terry
Thanks for the tip of the free level, just downloaded it.
Only for ipad at the moment though, says itouch and iphone app being worked on at present.
Thought I had got on to another ""we hate Apple site, although we have never used one"
never mind though, I use and love Apple, gave up Windoze years ago.

Hi David Thanks for that info, we have had items go missing in the post lately, thought that may have been it. You must get fed up working with poor systems, you replied before Hobbystore, still waiting for them. Hope you are feeling better and getting over your move. Best regards Ian |

Hi
I ordered two advance tickets for MEX in Oct.
After seeing Davids post that tickets would be issued approx two weeks prior to the show I did not worry.
However when checking on orders on my Hobbystore account I noticed that they had been despatched on the 25th Oct.
To date they have not arrived, has anybody else got this problem?

Thread: This months MEW are 3 CNC features two too many |
31/05/2011 15:20:04 |
Hi Lawrie
The tone of the thread was the final push I needed.
I had been considering cancelling my subscription for some time, the number of cnc items was a consideration, but only a consideration.
My cancellation will not affect the self opinionated few, I know, but I have been finding less interest in MEW for some time now, so I will buy what I want and leave that I do not.
Time was when a reasonable discusion could take place without insults being thrown about, but that was in a luddite past

Hi again
Having read all the comments about flat earthers and luddites from people who do not agree with the views of others and regard themselves as vastly superior to normal mortals, I am writing to say that they have convinced me to cancel my subscription and just buy the magazines that have subjects that do interest me.
I should say that the atitude of these people has not changed over the years, they were still there well before cnc, and they knew everything then as they do now. |
