Thread: Moore and wright tools |
28/03/2018 09:17:35 |
Just had an email from Bowers Group, Moore & Wright. Hello Ian,
Good morning.
The majority of the Moore & Wright products are manufactured in the Far East although a select number of items are still manufactured in the UK.
Kind regards

Thread: Drawing board v CAD |
20/03/2018 10:21:37 |
I agree with Larry, never had much use for drawing boards and certainly do not want to have to learn cad at 73, much too busy making things using my head for the design process. I may be old fashioned, but the worl seem to have gone totally electronic without many hands on skills being valued. A recent servay found that the only jobs likely to survive the oncoming robotics would be the skilled Hans on fettling ones, that repaired and things, as not all things are throw away yet. Wouldnt be without my iMac, iPhone and iPad though. |

Just a thought, would a 118 degree taper on the end of the pin be better for the depth of a drilled hole? |

Bowers group, M&W are advertising for staff at there Bradford factory, to work in a high precision engineering environment, so it appears they still manufacture there. |

So I am to beleive that old Myford made everything they sold themselves? |
17/02/2018 21:00:01 |
All my dealings with RDG/Myford from the old days in the second hand tools shop to the firm they are today I find they are totally genuine in there dealings, and when I call at the Mytholmroyd premises they are always helpful. To total them without any substance is disengenuos. To try and protect a name they have paid for from being used by others is fair enough, how would you feel if you had paid out and then found others freeloading? I have no other interest in them other than a satisfied customer. |

Simple enough job to make a couple from plate. |

Thanks for the edit Neil Ian |

Now I am getting well on with my engine, running well on air, I was thinking that I do not have much of an idea what it would have been used for, driving or pumping etc. Can anyone enlighten me as to the uses for it?
Ps the date on the calendar is the Centenary of the golf club i used to play at. Not found how to rotate pic's either as yet.

Thanks for the praise, Emgee and Chris, much appreciated although that was not what I posted for. Engine was 95% complete when pics were taken, see through oilers and drain cocks fitted since. Just wanted to say that the clearance is limited between the cylinders and standards, was a pain to fit the nuts to the studs with the room available, took a lot of work to provide clearance with the Dremmel. |

Just don”t forget what I mentioned about getting to the standard to fit the cylinders with extra studs. |

Built my Tangye with seven studs, not a problem, they arise when you fit to the standards at the rear, lol. |

Using the balls I suggest does away with building a spark eroder, unless you want to build one. |
13/01/2018 17:50:33 |
Just a heads up on the balls for the governor, Anthony thinks ball bearings would not be suitable as they cannot be drilled. Stainless 20mm balls are available from Bearing Warehouse and drill easily, I have used stainless balls on my last three engines with good results. They are drilled in the lathe using beer can foil to protect them from damage, bit of a pain getting the cans to empty though! Usual disclaimer. |
Thread: Q.C.T.P's |

Used the Dickson type from Myfords on my ml7 when I had it, and now on my 254s, would not be without them. No more cuts from the tools in the old 4 way post, or looking for old lumps to shim up seldom used tools. I use them for a couple of parting tools even though I have a rear toolpost for parting, which lives in the dark recesses, rarely even have to reduce speed to part off. Each to his or her own though, but you could try and if you did not get on with them they sell easily enough. Edited By Ian Hewson on 10/01/2018 17:49:18 |

From watching the bbc news, you would think the problem just affected Apple products. As far as I am aware Apple patched there products a few weeks ago apart from Safari.
