Wring = wrong!

18/03/2020 21:45:24

Assumption here - very dangerous! If the OP is thinking about sanitising due to the Corona virus, the current advice seems to be that good old fashioned soap is the best defence - something to do with the way soap interacts with the virus. If this assumption is wring, please ignore.

Reply to Clive:

Yes Clive, I have paid these charges. Paying the VAT is understandable, paying the Post Office £8.00 'admin fee' less so! However, i weigh up the total cost and decide if the item is worth it - it may still be cheaper than buying locally. In the cases I have experienced the item is held at the post office that keeps your undelivered mail and the postie drops a card through your door. You proceed to the post office, hand over the cash (or card) and the item is yours.

Thread: Another post for great service.

I was after some small UNC grub screws and came upon Spalding Fasteners: www.spaldingfasteners.co.uk. Very reasonable prices, no minimum order and very fast delivery.

No connection, just a very satisfied customer. They have a great variety of items and may be worth a look.

Thread: Today's 'Live Chat' with TalkTalk

Thread (continued) drift, but I got a Truecall unit free, gratis and for nothing through ( I think) Trading Standards. Takes few minutes to set up - they say you need an engineer but you don't - and once operational it requires human intervention to get a call to ring your phone ( press a number on your keypad). So all the robot diallers don't make it past the first fence. You can add your 'trusted numbers' to a list so they get straight through. I have to admit to being sceptical, but we have not had one scam call since I installed it. Gets my vote.

That's where I found my tiny precision square that I was convinced I had lent out and forgotten about!

I have several Aldi hand and power tools, all of which do 'what it says on the tin', but are not pretending to be high-end products. With that in mind, what would the forum think of this:

Thread: Jones and Shipman 540
20/09/2018 09:14:30

I have a 540 which I run from a static phase converter. As the machine has a motor for the wheel and a motor for the hydraulics my understanding (which may well be wrong as evidenced by Marks post!) is that I couldn't use just one inverter, and that the switchgear could not be between the inverter(s) and the load. Hence the phase converter. I spoke to a very helpful gentleman at Transwave who suggested that I switch on the wheel before the hyd, and switch off in the reverse order.

Nick L - please could you give details of your microswitch/ VFD set up? It sounds interesting.

John

So I have an album here, https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/albums/member_album.asp?a=48822

I have the microswitch on S1 one connection. So when the switch (normal closed) is opened, it stops only the forward direction of the motor. Reverse direction still works . I set the VFD to stop in about 0.3 seconds I think, maybe 0.1 seconds. When the switch opens, the motor stops, then I switch to reverse, wind back.and can take another cut. The microswitch is set on a movable stop to set it in the Z distance.

Will add more to the album when I thread cut next.

Gary,

It's 'Uni Screw'. I bought a box some time ago. The idea was that one bit would cover a range of screw sizes. Needless to say, the bit has long gone.........

I'm trying to upload a photo of the box.....just hang on.

I did a search on line and found a firm that makes the screws to order, but never got a new bit. I'll have a dig to see what I can find.

Rgds,'
